  1. Where is Jagr from? Chechnya?!?! Errrrr…. It's Czechia. The same country that won the gold today. Smh.

    It's pronounced : CHECK – E – a.

  2. I'm still in the camp of the leafs looking at getting on the blower to Nashville. And asking about Saros and possibly bringing Schenn back. Send Marner and Lilligren/ Brodie there.
But no matter what happens, it seem like the marner situation has the potential to become very messy very quickly if one of the parties ( being either the leafs or marners camp) don't budge.

  3. Marner to the Islanders is pure fantasy. Reportedly Marner did not have a great relationship with Methusaleh when he was in Toronto, and the Islanders have nothing Toronto would want in a trade outside of Sorokin, and they couldn't pry him from Lou's cold dead hands. 😊

  4. Although Kris Knabloch is Fan Favorite, after his stint in The Rangers' Organization, I don't know what he was thinking of, in pulling The Goalie with still 2 minutes to go in only A 1 Goal Game. I think that he should've waited until 1 minute to go. Let me know what you think.

  5. Marner would get booed big time by the fans if he tries to stay in Toronto. His ego couldn't handle it. He will agree to go.

  6. You make a good point about the rule change to A 2 minute 5 on 3, instead of the way the rule is, however, I think that the rule should remain the way it is because it's A Penalty On The Player, not the team. Therefore (for the reasons mentioned), I think that the rule should stay the way it is, however, the fact that you mentioned that, I was wondering what you would be thinking about, if A Goalie gets A Penalty, he has to serve it & the Backup has to come in for the Penalty Time (problems are what you do at the end of the 2 minutes – stop play to go back to the Goalie exiting the Sin Bin). Let me know what you think

  7. Marner to either Detroit or Chicago would make sense
Both have top prospects at 23 years of age and under and lots to offer as far as depth and draft picks

  8. The "trade clause" does ZERO for a team/organization. Signing a player to a long term contract, i'd rather "over pay" vs giving any "trade rights". There are about 20 players that deserve multi year year deals in this league….other than that, i wouldn't provide ANY of the others with a "trade clause"….its the worst case scenario for a team to be handcuffed to a player. NEVER DO THAT…..GM schooling 101, "NEVER handcuff your organization to a long term deal you can't off load without penalty." Obviously some GM's didn't take the course….

  9. If Marner refuses to be traded and doesn't resign he would be enemy number 1 for that rabid fan base and Toronto media. As a Toronto native I'd be shocked if he took that route to be the most hated player of the last 20 years.

I really think Utah would be a good fit for Marner. If he wants to be treated like a god, make lots of money, and not have a ton of playoff pressure on him then that seems like a perfect spot. Utah's owner seems like a young guy with money to spend and would want to make a splash in a new hockey market to excite the fans. So signing Marner to a long term extension seems like a no-brainer. As for the return, I think Toronto could expect Utah's 2025 1st, a prospect, and a roster player. Might not seem like much, but as you mentioned, the real value of bouncing Marner is his $11+ million in cap space freed up for the Leafs to continue to reshape the team.

  10. Mike, Interesting happenings. As a sens podcast why do you refuse to cover the latest Brady Tkachuk rumours? The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford's article from May 21st? St.Louis's Stillman told Rutherford that the Tkachuk discussions have picked up?? Today, I saw a podcast that the Devils are discussing Tkachuk. Tom Fitzgerald, Brady's cousin, is in discussion with the sens, although admittedly at the beginning stages.

  11. Thats fine, put him on the third line so he can show he is capable of running his own line

  12. Hot take: Both Marner and Tavares will be in the starting lineup come fall. Toronto will lose the trades involving either player, not matter what.
How do you replace Marner's 85 points? Even worse, how do you replace Tavares' points and faceoff acumen? He is the only one who can win a faceoff on a regular basis.
This matters when you consider Toronto was a wildcard team this year…would they even make the playoffs this year without these guys? With Detroit nipping at their heels, it is questionable.

  13. Goaltending is not the issue in Ott. Sure, both goalies performed poorly as well, but bringing in another goalie at a cost (who is going to take Korpisalo?), simply isn't worth it. They have to figure out the D core and how to play in front of their goalie, before bringing anyone new in.

  14. The Leafs simply need to structure the deal with a contingency that if Marner signs a new deal with the acquiring club, Toronto receives an additional draft pick or picks added. No big deal.
