A rare year where the UFA D pool is incredibly deep with both high-end talent and depth options. If there was ever a year for the team to have a lot of holes on the back end, it would be this one.

I think they might be priced out of the Skjei/Montour range (depending on what happens with Hronek), but I’m really hoping they make a run at one of Roy/Pesce.

You’d have to be crazy to read that list and still think we should trade Hronek.

At a similar price, I would rather keep Hronek than sign a big name dman at FA. Yes, Hronek hasn’t been great recently but people forget how good he was and could be based on the first half of the season. I still remember people ragging on Quinn’s sophomore season and how his first season was an outlier… well we know how that turned out.

Hronek is still relatively young and I would rather not give up on someone that has been tight lipped about a likely injury.

Obviously could be very wrong here but in only 2-3 years I see Hronek being the better asset and player than anyone on this FA list.

TJ Brodie would be the perfect fit for this club, his advanced stats and underlying numbers and… uh… stats are good? Just ignore my username, trust me dudes he’ll be great.

  5. Jalen Chatfield. I think he’s developed really nicely in Carolina, though I’m sure he’ll be fishing for a big deal, he’s probably my #1 guy on the market..

There’s a lot out there but there’s also a lot of teams that are going to be bidding on multiple pieces. Utah is likely the ones with the most to spend and they need 4 UFA guys plus their RFAs. Canucks and Canes have a lot of cap space but a lot of expensive spots they need to spread it around to. It’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out but with the cap finally going up we’ll likely see new salary benchmarks at every tier.

Kylington and Carrier might be intriguing if they hit free agency.

I also think Colin Miller as a 5/6 guy on a shorter term deal would be a nice pick up.

Haydn Fleury also isn’t a terrible get at near league minimum as a 7/8 guy with Juulsen.

Wouldn’t be opposed to Dillon. I really enjoyed having big defenceman on our team after years of being pushed around and not having many guys who fought back.

I have faith in management for once

Probably Roy to hold down the #3 role beside Soucy. I think Cole would be a good stopgap at 1.5M x 2 (with 10-15 games of load management per season where Juulsen can slot in) while we wait for D-Petey & Willander to make the show.

For the #2 D it won’t be quite as simple. I’m not quite sold on Necas and would prefer a deal involving Hronek & Pesce if the latter prices himself out of Carolina.

Honestly. Cole, Dillon, Myers and Montour. Trade Hronek for a forward.
