Intriguing prospect, and if he’s the best player I say go for it. Always a little iffy picking a goalie at that point in the draft considering how strange goalie development is. Personally I wouldn’t but if Conroy steps up and does it I’ll be optimistic. I don’t think he’s made a move I’ve disliked as GM yet. So I trust him so far.
Never heard of him but NA goalies is a shallow pool to be 27th in, no? I don’t think a 3rd/4th is used on him. Even average goalies have huge games, you need to go with larger sample size than their most recent games.
27th ranked goalie in North America is not that highly ranked. There were 22 goalies drafted last year and not all of them were from North America. If he is drafted at all, expect him to go in the 5th to 7th round.
I’m not saying he is a bad goalie, or won’t get drafted, but looking at his rankings and stats I don’t think there will be much competition for him.
Personally, I would probably target Ilya Nabokov. While undersized, his numbers are consistent every year and he is already playing in the KHL. If he would commit to playing in North America in general, or Calgary specifically, I would be happy giving up a second or third round pick for him.
Kinda goalie you add to the development camp roster to look at for a potential future free agent signing but unless he MVPs the memorial cup he’s not getting drafted and any pick spent would be questionable.
2023 was the most goalies taken in 5 years at 26. 9 were North American. Someone might throw a 7th at him if he keeps up last night’s play through the rest of the cup but bets made on random one to four game heaters are not often the smartest.
