  1. LOL the Panthers did this one time vs Tampa in the playoffs years ago. It worked. Lomberg scored then they have been doing it ever since. Its annoying like the…is it Michigan goal?

  2. Thought this vid was gonna be about Marchand and Reinhart's punch for some reason b/c of the Bruins thumbnail and the vague ass title. Really gotta fix that shit, I was trying to figure out the subject of the vid until like mid-way through then I get what you're going after and then gotta go back to deeply grasp the analysis. Do better man, you're good enough to not need clickbaity titles.

Analysis itself is good, and covers a nice topic that isn't touched on often. But I gotta say, some of your examples are straight up wrong. At 3:11, Hintz is just doing a fast breakout – it's not even early as he's still well in his own zone. Anchor would be if he's settled and idle at the opposite blue-line but Hintz ain't even near the centerline. The real anchor plays would be like when you highlight Seguin at 4:30. It's a good, legitimate tactic to create space when there isn't much, but it comes with its own risks.

Regardless, early/fast breakouts and anchor plays are NOT cherry picking in my books. Offical leagues have offsides for a reason – to prevent legitimate cherry picking, making it illegal for a skater to just chill out next to the goalie hoping for a 200ft skyhook/dump. That's probably where we took the term from basketball where they'd just stand by the other net while everyone else is at one end. That shit's illegal, this stuff is just tactics.

Overall I like what you chose to cover, and the mention of drawbacks of broadcast angles and whatnot. But this one was a bit lacking in title choice and accuracy. Good transition from the guy's vids to how it applies to current playoff hockey. And thanks for sharing source, I see where you're getting a lot of your content/knowledge now.

  3. that is NOT how cherry picking works. A cherry picker is typically rogue from the rest of the team, and the idea is to sneak behind the defense without them knowing and wait for the easy opportunity. This here what you're talking about is a simple strategy to stretch the ice to create room by intentionally send a player way the hell up ice to force coverage and create space. Like a football team running a spread offense.

  4. All I'm seeing is the Oilers not actually getting exposed and just making simple mistakes that have nothing to do with the "cherry picking"

  5. i always wish we were more zoomed out on broadcasts. not being able to see the blue line when the puck is in the zone really makes it hard to understand whats happening imo

  6. you couldnt make that kind of pass 20 years ago (two-line pass), surprised it took so long to be relevant

  7. It's a good idea to leave a player deep even when your team don't have the puck.

  8. Think it was the days of trap hockey they removed the no two line pass rule, to get more offence going and add excitement… despite seeing it a lot, still no excitement.. today is almost as boring as trap hockey of the 90s….time to go four on four all the time

  9. I feel like there are cherry picking moments almost every game. With the broadcast view like you mentioned, you can only see the active play. I always see a player whip the puck down the ice thinking "wtf are they doing nobody is over there" only for the camera to move and they now have a breakaway

  10. Teams have used this strat for decades, this isnt anything new. Where do you think beer league players learned it from?

Oilers defense is just complete dogshit.

  11. TML aren't triple teaming JVR, he's pushing at least some defensive coverage back to their blue line because they vacated the Boston half to change. JVR's good, but he's no McNasty or anything.

  12. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Hyman can't be bothered to play defense. That would require another 2 million AAV.

  13. This is what happens when you remove the 2 zones passes infraction by removing the center ice line. That rule had it's purpose and we can clearly see the result. Bring back the 2 zone passes infraction!!!!!!

  14. I remember I averaged 4 goals a game cherry picking before they stopped letting me play hockey because I was 11 and 6'0'' 250 and would make kids quit hockey with clean checks. feelsbadman

  15. I cherry pick all the time in adult league. Some people give me a lot of shit, not my problem, it's legal, and works a'lot, my message to other team is DO YOUR JOB.

  16. There’s an off-side rule that prohibits a player from receiving a pass beyond the blue and red line, if the receiving player was beyond the second line before the puck crossed the second line.

Cherry picking? If you don’t like the rules, change the rules.

  17. The two line pass basically prevented this style of play. That being said, I'm glad they got rid of the two line pass rule.

  18. This is the number one reason why many Americans don't like the sport…. Canadians just know the type of stuff that's going on, why the defence is stretched out and where the puck is as well as where it's going from body language from watching hundreds of games in our childhood, I'll say I don't think that's as common these days

  19. 1-3-1 formation ends that garbage very quick. Not much space to skate to when you lose the puck just as you "broke out"
