He *was* the exact type of DMan. I’m not confident he’s that guy anymore, and I’d rather go find a new one in trade or FA than re-sign Klingberg, thereby allowing the front office to check “acquire an offensive defenceman” off their to do list.

Trying to so see if Klingberg is recovered at basically no money is a no brainer to try. It’s all upside or buried.

There are worse things in this world than giving Klingberg a vet minimum signing for 1 year. Low risk potentially high reward

Are we all forgetting how he performed at the beginning of the season?? Liability defensively and poor decision making with the puck??

Go ahead and sign anybody you want to a contract that can be fully buried in the AHL, as long as they will actually have the guts to bury it when the time comes.
The Klingberg thing went on for too many games last year before they could finally call him injured. If he’s playing like that again next year you gotta pull the trigger and send him away.

No thanks to performance based. Connor Brown is eating an extra $2.5m cap on Edmonton next year thanks to that.
If they want a league min or PTO? Sure.

I mean if the front office is gonna run it back then I guess Klingberg should get another shot too.

Personally don’t want Klingberg back. We have two right side young defencemen (Lily and Timmins) who are just as good / better defensively and both have had success offensively over the past two years when given opportunity (don’t forget what Lily did with Rielly out and Timmins is ~0.5ppg in 50 games as a Leaf). Klingberg wasn’t impressive last year in his short stint stapled next to McCabe, and we can only imagine it’ll be worse from here out.

I don’t want incentive based contracts. Those just mess up your cap the following season. Neither guy should be getting anything more than a PTO at this point

I mean a Benoit / Klingberg 3rd pair could work tbh?

Roster spots are limited, let’s not waste them on washed players.

Sorry but these guys are not worth adding performance based bonuses. League min for each, take it or leave it. They won’t get more elsewhere.

Come on. League minimum or not, Klingberg for any amount of cash is idiotic. Murray, maybe, but only because the guy is still young and the Leafs’ situation in goal is still wildly uncertain.
