It feels so weird having a legitimately skilled forward prospect

I’ve only watched a handful of the WHL playoff games and the Memorial Cup but Yager looks great. I hope he gets his 9 games in the NHL this season. I know he’s young but he’s playing all 200ft, he’s even said in interviews that that’s what he focused on this season, accepting that there will be shifts where his job is to check. Even with the focus on defense he had 95 regular season points in 57 games, 27 points in 20 WHL playoff games and 6 points in 4 Memorial Cup games.
Even if he doesn’t make it to a full time NHLer, the time he could get with Malkin and Crosby I think would only bolster his game for one more year in the WHL.
It’s exciting watching a prospect like this and we have a handful of guys battling for roster spots that seem like they could actually make a difference. Lately, it’s felt like all we can do is wring our hands waiting for Crosby to retire, but it’s nice to see the spark of talent coming up.

I believe Craig Button said he thinks Yager was the only prospect in the Mem Cup Tourney that’s NHL ready.

It’s too bad he probably won’t be in a pens sweater for a coupe more years, sully doesn’t trust young players.

I don’t do a lot of following prospects. Do we know what this kids ceiling is?
