Trouba has 2 years left with a no movement clause. Perhaps they can discuss if he would accept a trade, if not, he will be bought out. He should be stripped of his captaincy regardless. 8M is horrendous for his lack of awareness on the ice. There's no excuse why he went to hit Rodriguez without the puck. Zib is locked up through 2030 with a full NMC, at 8.5M. Either Kreider or Lafreniere should be named Captain. Laviolette also failed to adjust playing style.. they should have been playing a puck-posession game, and CARRYING the puck into the Offensive Zone, not dump-and-chase. The Panthers were beating the Rangers to pucks on almost every dump in.
Trouba was terrible in the playoffs. The other underperformers up front at least backchecked and played decent defense. Trouba did not, and that's his main job. The bonehead play he made on the Bennett goal basically killed their season. You can't be paying $8m to what is now a 3rd pair defenseman. They need to dump him on someone. He's got a modified NMC, so that leaves 17 teams as options. Get it done. It's Jones time.
You do a great job Jon. This one ended in major disappointment but the ride was exhilirating.
Agree about Trouba. He had a horrible playoffs. I think he is still dealing with the ankle injury he sustained earlier in the season. I don't think the Rangers buy him out. He is UNTRADEABLE. The Rangers will ride it out one more season with him and bury him on the third pairing and buy the last season of his contract out next off-season.
Mika is the bigger issue. I think his best days are behind him. Suddenly the Rangers have issues at 1C an 3C.
Im done with Kakko and Chytil. It's not going to happen for either of those players in NY. They should be traded.

Honestly. The entire Defense minus Fox is pathetic. Fox obviously got injured further in the Wash series. Screw size and all that. Get players that can move the puck out on defense. Your forwards can't score if they never have the puck because you are in your zone for 2.5 mins per shift.
If not for Trouba, Rangers don’t come back from down 3-1 to win series vs Pens. Just ask Crosby.
Another year comes to an end…..looking back lots to be happy about but in the end it’s disappointing no cup….not sure what next year will bring….I just hope we don’t waste having an outstanding goaltender in Igor like we did with Henrik …..win or lose I’ll always be a Rangers fan, since 1971…..thanks for your good podcast Jon, I look forward to more and seeing what off season brings….Go Rangers!
A disappointing end to a great season. Florida was just better. The core is not going anywhere. You can't move them. You can't trade them. I would let all the UFAs walk this year and bring up some kids and let them play. Resign Miller and Kaako. I know they've struggled, but they are young and need more time. Rangers may have to take a step back to make the final leap forward.
Igor, Fox, Trochek, Laffy, everyone else can go. Let All UFA's go. Of the RFA's only Schneider needs a contract. Get rid of Trouba and give C to Trochek. Need a 1RW and 1LD. Build up bottom 6 and blueline.
Trouba is a very bad example for a team captain!!!
They should rip the C off Trouba and put it on Trocheck
Florida is the better team. Rangers would lose 10 of the next 10 series to Florida. Florida's constant forechecking and rotation in the offensive zone was phenomenal.
Mika is the reason. No excuses
NY’s defense was the worst I’ve ever seen. Miller and Trouba were responsible for at least 6 goals against. The giveaways and the Panthers ability to gum up the neutral ice were key. Clearly in game 6 there were too many opportunities and shots that were fired wide of the net. It’s the Stanley Cup. You CANNOT miss those opportunities. The Panthers were the better team and were driven to win with a relentless forecheck, and man to man coverage in their D-Zone. The Breadman who is one of the best passers in the NHL was intercepted a dozen times. The Panthers game plan was for all intents and purposes was flawless. Give credit where do.
Trouba and Mika have to go. Let Christine follow too, we don’t need anymore players who can only score on the PP.
Miller was awful. Overrated and way to soft

Jon, excellent work all year! Locked On should consider utilizing your talents to coach up some of your contemporaries on other Locked On channels, such as Blues and Hurricanes for a couple of examples.
Panthers were the better team in determination, will, desire, and physicality. Series was won with will over skill!!

It's a shame we fell short again, but I truly believe, taking everything they accomplished this year into account, that they are just a few tweaks away from a championship. We don't need an overhaul, we need some playoff fine tuning.
Let's keep the faith boys and girls, and hope they make the correct decisions.

Trocheck was selected by the Breadman to attend the All Star game because Artemi had a baby coming due. That choice was well played as Vinnie came through all season.
Been saying this for years until they add size , grit ,nastiness to there lines they will never win ,panthers were built like that and it clearly showed 4 lines deep , also panthers played together and accepted the system they played , rangers at times looked lost ,trouba needs to go ,mika also brutal ,Miller was awful also ,Drury needs to make changes will not win with this group,
Two costly defensive mistakes by Trouba in the last two games. Almost identical mental miscues by the guy that has a C on his sweater.
Zib for sure is not a #1 center man. Reassemble the Kid line and let them fly as the first line.
Before the playoffs started I did not expect the Rangers to win the Cup because I expected Mika, Kreider and Panarin to disappear at some point. Which is what happened against FLA. I don't think it was effort related. I think FLA shut them down. I don't know what the answer is, but I hope Drury can figure it out.
Someone needs to ask Lavi why Jones never got a chance. He couldn't have done any worse.

Trouba is slow. He makes a lots of mistakes. He is sloppy with the puck, Several turnovers. Too many penalties. An toooooo much money. Deal him or buy him out.
Mika and Artemi deserve the majority of the blame. Yes Trouba was terrible, but we've know he's not good for a while. Mika and Artema were no shows when it mattered most.

I didn't see much of any of the games. But, seeing reviews of the games,they stunk. As always,too many passes on power plays.
Gutted. I bought into the team of destiny BS. Was way too high on my own supply this post season. The Panther's series could have easily gone the other way but I think we all agree the better team won… Here's to hoping I see another NYR Stanley cup before I die.
This core group of players just cannot get it done deeper in the playoffs. It's the same issue every time. They're just too soft and totally wear down against these bigger more physical teams. We need a big center who can go both ways and bigger defense. These kind of teams are the ones that win. The Floridas, the Tampas from a couple years ago, the Kings when we lost the finals- same issue. We got out-physicaled every time.
#1. Get rid of Trouba and Gus(Zac Jones starts and find a partner next to him. #2 figure out what to with Miller and Kaako. Miller cost us way too many goals. Kaako good with the puck and solid defensively but doesn't do much else. #3 Get a forward or 2 that have a nose for shooting the puck. Hopefully Othman, Rempe, Edstrom take a step and join the group.
I talked with Valiquette at the rink today and he thinks there should be big changes. Even to the point of potentially Mika going
The Rangers 5v5 was a telling sign of a problem all season.
Trading Buchnevich in retrospect was a huge mistake. The trade has left a hole that hasn't been filled since.
New York fans put way too much stock in finishing first in the regular season. Being built for the playoffs is always different than regular seasons success which is why most presidents trophy winners do not win the Stanley cup.
Awful is Mika and panarin disappearing because it got to hard for those pampered babies
One of my pet peeves this playoff series was when Gus took the needless penalty that would have given us a 5 on 3 when he went after the panthers player who bumped Shesty. Mind you we already had 2 Rangers on him but for some reason Gus felt it wasn't enough. It peevs me because when you have so few scoring chances against the panthers, you shouldn't give them the opportunity for a missed chance like that. There were so many mental lapses by many others but that one got me for some reason. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Trouba gone.
Amazing how people are just seeing how bad Trouba is now. It was evident his first week playing for the Rangers in the fall of 2019.
Listening to your assessments, I agree with so much of what you’re saying. We certainly didn’t get playoff value at the trade deadline. If Trouba is gone, who do we get to replace him?
Our core is soft. Trouba needs to be moved. He was completely exposed against Canes and Panthers. There is no place to hide him. He is too slow and all he can do is block shots. His hockey IQ is low and makes poor decisions all over the ice. Panarin, Mika, and Kreider had two chances at going to the final but failed. This is the furthest we will go with them. They scored a grand total of 2 goals in 6 games during the most important time of the season. One was during garbage time by Panarin. That is unacceptable. Build the team around Laffy, Cuylle, Schneider, and Rempe. Everyone else except Igor should be trade bait.
It's not for a lack of effort from Trouba. He does try I'll give him that, but he just sucks. You can fix a lack of effort. Sucking is terminal. Now we have to hope that there is some stupid GM out there that will take this bum off our hands. There are probably 7 players I would get rid of this summer as well. I just don't know what is out there to get back. At some point we'll have to give the prospects a serious look I guess. The D totally has to be rebuilt. 2 possibly three guys you keep the rest can bugger off. I do not want any of these forwards back – Kaako, Wenberg, Ros, Wheeler for sure. Maybe keep Vesey but he could go as well. I just really admire what he and Goody did in the Devil line brawl. That was the ultimate in comradery. The elephant in the room is going to be what they with Mika. Mike looked like he was ill. Some say its a lack of effort or disinterest. It was so bad he looked ill to me. I just wanted to slap him in the face and wake him up. Way too many years left on that bloated contract if this is what we have to look forward to. Seems like he's more interested in playing music than hockey.
