marner was criticized for digging in on his last contract and it all had to do with the treatment he got from babcock. he was in no mood to take a friendly deal. now it looks like he will do a tkachuk. without looking it up i believe kadri scored an O/T goal for the lanche in the cup final.

Fans are not in the hockey business. What business person will take the risk in trading a star NHL player and risk the potential of the Leafs missing the playoffs? The "safe" play is to let Marner have a monster year and have the Leafs enjoy another 100+ point year. Fans will then demand Marner be resigned. If Marner has a bad year then letting him walk will be see as a "win" because of the cap space freed up.

Everyone talks about the player having all the leverage – WRONG – tell the player if you don't agree to a trade, you will be sitting in the press box until you agree. The player and agent want a good final year (points) going into free agent talks. If the player isn't playing, you take away his points and ability for a good final year. The leafs don't need Marner to make the playoffs so the leverage is greater with the leafs than the player, as he sits until he agrees to be traded.

First of all, Hyman was Kadri 2.0. Marner will be 2.5 because he'll make it half way to the cup of he's on a team that will make up for his lack of playoff compete. Even if we just get his salary back we will be better off. There will be other free agents available for a better price. So don't fret my pets. If our Lord and Saviour wants to play out his contract and walk off, he can go down in Leafs history the same way Johnny Hockey will in Calgary. Difference is, Marner is from here. There's no place like home especially when you're hated by everyone in public.
