Marner is not going nowhere, remember, he's a god in this town…why would he want to go anywhere else. This team will be even worse than last year.
Has it stands, we don't have a starting goalie, we have a defense that is bottom tier in the league, all we have is an offense that disappears when it counts…that's the Toronto Maple Leafs in a nutshell. And there's nothing a GM can do. The top goalie free agents are not that great of a crop and the really good ones will demand too much. Montour would look great in blue and white but he will want a substantial pay raise…we're screwed, again.

Leafs have a gaping hole at middle 6 center and top 4 D men RHD. They could have Petterson-Nylander line, thus two elite first lines, and spend both Berts and Brodies' money on two defencemen, e.g., Pesce & Tanev; or, they could trade for and sign Jenner & Stephenson at center-left wing, and Pesce & Provorov on defense.
I don't think a lot of fans understand how hard it is to pull off big bold moves. The salary cap and NMC contracts has made it next to impossible for teams from making major deals. I'm not saying it can't be done but trades of star players hardly ever happens anymore and its not just the Leafs..
