  1. The very worst trade in Toronto history is trading Frank Mahovlich. We won another two Stanley Cups with the Habs, a total of six in his career.

  2. The Leaf fans cannot forgive the Leafs for trading Sittler? Utter garbage. Sittler demanded to be traded. He also had a no trade clause. Under this clause, if he wanted to be traded it was only to the teams of his choice. He chose Philadelphia and another team. The Leafs G.M. had his hands tied.

  3. Trading Clark for Sundin was one of the worst trades in Leafs history.. I remember predicting the Leafs would never win a cup with Sundin…and I was right all long…

  4. The real reason Russ Courtnall was traded to the LORDS TEAM is because Russ spelt with Al Iafrate's wife.
He chased him out of maple leaf gardens. Look it up!

  5. 2 years away from tying the Rangers for the longest Stanley drought in league history. I think the Leafs will surpass New York and make some history. They've earned it. Dubas sure knows how to give money away.

  6. We had a WHA franchise for a few years here in Birmingham ,Alabama. Loved Hockey ever since. The franchise moved from Toronto, the toros I believe we're there name. Mark Napier, kenny linesmen, Vladov Nadominsky, John Garrett are some of the names you might recognize! Most entertaining sport to watch in person. Thanks

  7. The worst trade was trading Lanny McDonald on Dec. 29, 1979. He was only 26 and went on to score 300 goals elsewhere. How can you trade Lanny McDonald?

  8. I hate lists like this where eventual picks that were traded became something special. Honestly, it's not like the Leafs would have picked those players. You can say those types of ''bad trades'' for every team. They didn't value draft picks back then because they didn't really have a cap yet. I would have put Rask for Raycroft over most of these trades because they were both players that were actually drafter by their respective teams.

  9. The Mark Bell/Vesa Toskala trade.
Both those picks turned into Craig Smith and Lars Eller. Toskala turned into one of the biggest busts in Leafs history along with Raycroft and Mark Bell get arrested for a DUI I believe and wasn't seen in the NHL since then. Even worse is in 2007 the goalie free agents weren't even bad you had Minnesota's Nickolas Backstrom who was really good back then and Manny Legace who was 34 but was actually from Toronto and could have given them better goaltending until players like Rask developed into starters. It amazes me just how bad of a GM JFJ was

  10. Number one in my book is Kessel for two first rounders when we were at the bottom of the league.

  11. This could have easily been a top 15 or 20 trade. The leafs traded enough draft picks away to fill a playoff roster lol.

  12. A couple of honorable mentions from ten years in the future. Trading Tuukka Rask to Boston for Andrew Raycroft. And another trade with the Bruins that saw the Leafs grab Phil Kessel for the first round picks that became Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton.

  13. Go back to 1968 Wings and Leafs involving 2 Hall of Famers Norm Ullman and Frank Mahovlich ( other players involved, Garry Unger Pete Stemkowski Paul Henderson)

  14. Sorry but #3 shouldnt be on that list especially with the way the Islanders got ZERO production from Luongo. Even in hindsight thats not a "bad trade" the islanders didnt come out ahead its a break even at best.

  15. Just because the team that got Toronto's draft pick selected that player, doesn't mean the Laughs, I mean Leafs, would have selected that player and/or that player would have developed into a HOF with the Laughs!

  16. Including draft picks that turn out to be stars shouldn't count. Those are wild cards. A draft pick can just as easy be a bust.

  17. The Toronto Maple Leafs are fucked, because they get sold out arenas and big TV contracts no matter how good they do. Another franchise like Hamilton needs to people in be there in by far the most populated area in Canada.

  18. Having a draft pick, means you still need to PICK a good draft pick… many haven't lived up to their reputation or potential. Hindsight is 20/20. BUT YES, the Leafs have made many gawd awful decisions, especially during the Ballard era. The Sittler trade stung the fans.

  19. I stopped watching the Leafs after Johnsen and first round, for Snyder Clark. I knew at that point they would never again contend for a cup. I was right.
