  1. Their PP and PK are insane, but we're a little ahead of them in most other areas. Just gotta stay disciplined. We are the best team for that job.

  2. I think the biggest advantage the Panthers have is that 3rd line. I will admit and say that the Oilers PK does make me worried even though they’re not on level with the Rangers, they have done a good job when on the PK. Another main thing to look for is Shaq Hyman being around the net and trying to limit what he can do. Overall I hope you’re right with the prediction but just in case which puppet do we blame if worst comes to worst?(lol)

  3. Both teams are very similar in size and quality of play. I think florida will have a slight edge in being heavy for longer, same as they wore teams down in the prior 3 rounds. Another edge might be the panthers not relying as much on top 6 scoring to win games. Chucky has been a bit cold the last 5 games, but he may blow up for this match up because of his flames era, same for benny and lomberg. Things to keep track of is the McDavid getting away with bias type stuff. Like vs Dallas he grabbed the puck, closed hand and relocated it down and away from Him,no call. Expect a bit of nhl Canada bias too, Since their media are beating the Canada vs the panthers drum. Rather than just oilers vs panthers. Cats are healthy, rested and ready. Go Cats

  4. cautiously optimistic here…panthers in 6 and I hope I'm right or we win in even less games because I do not want to be the team that gives canada its first cup in decades

  5. I love that Jersey. I bought one years ago. The thing I like about it is the crossed palm tree and hockey stick on the shoulder patch IDK what happened to it. Okay, here's where I say something crazy, but it's crossed my mind. After seeing McD turning 2 Stars inside-out and then making a move to the front of the net that nobody would believe was possible, then roofing it on the far side. I wonder if the Oil threw a game against Van just to keep their underdog status. Yeah, now that I wrote that, I see that it's nuts. But they're still the underdog

  6. Haven’t ever been very vocal in the comments, but I’ll say it here: not confident against the Oilers. The Oilers play the same game as us, but with better offense and worse goaltending. With the exact flavor of the style they play, though, it allows them to shore up their goaltending issue: we just have bubba.
I want to win this, but I’m scared. Edmonton has looked fantastic these playoffs.

  7. I can't believe Knoublach out coached Pete Deboer but Maurice is a better coach for sure. Watched the New York Post recap of the series and they said Panthers hit the Rangers over and over sometimes after the whistle and it just takes it's toll…even after having a first round sweep of Washington, they were gassed. Oh yes, that McDavid move, Lafreniere did the exact same move…puck to his skate with his legs close together…stick vertical to the ice. Just look at his chest and knock his ass to the ice. Corey Perry could be important because he will try to be a pain in the butt…watch him. IMO Nobody makes better quick decisions along the wall than the Panthers. I would like to see Lomberg in first game come out there and clobber everyone, especially Perry and Nurse. Also Skinner is a problem for the Oilers and you must take advantage of that. Want to see those rats on the ice!

  8. Enjoyed your take on the series. Good evaluation and appreciate the hometown loyalty and belief….
Oliers had a tougher road to get here and dealt with Vancouvers checking and forecheck, which is superior to the Panthers. As a matter of fact the Canucks beat the Panthers quite handily this season. But, of course, the playoffs are a different animal…. still, Oilers in 6.

  9. I don't know much about Edmonton, other than they're hot right now. I know they have a couple of superstars (scorers) and a great goaltender. They're in the Stanley cup. 8th seed or 1st seed, if you make it this far, you're certifiably great.

    A few things:

    1. Bob has to be the Bob from the previous series against the Rangers, there's no margin for error. I think he's going to see more shots and get screened a lot. I'm also confident putting in Stolarz for periods or a game if need be. 2.03 goals against, .925 save percentage & 2 shut outs this year. Who knows how he'll perform under these lights? But I like that we have him available, healthy and well rested.

    2. Our defense has to be our greatest offensive weapon. This series is over if we play our style of hockey. Minimize penalties, block shots, continued master class at forechecking, and don't let Bob see more than 25 to 30+ shots. 25 or fewer… that's how we win.

    3. Offensively, a few guys need to get going, but it takes a team to win a team sport, just keep the puck on their end, crowd the net and send shot after shot toward it. Take their legs away and frustrate them.

Of course that's much easier said than done. The Oilers have plenty of time and talent to figure us out. If you thought we were good on the PK… a scary statistic is their penalty kill is at 94%. We're at 88%. Both excellent, but we can't afford mistakes or allow short-handed goals! Somehow, We just have to remain one step ahead (even if we're behind). If the Panthers are having fun on the ice… then they'll have much more fun off the ice at series end.

The unknown: Panthers have home ice, but that doesn't guarantee anything; it's nice to have though. If that arena is loud, the Panthers will feed off that energy.
If a big cat is hungry… no place is safe. I wish I could go to a game, I'm excited!

  10. Clog up the neutral zone and don’t let them create chances off the rush (McDavid). Force shots from the outside and clear out bodies from the front of the net so they don’t get rebound goals and tip ins (Hyman). And most importantly, take away Skinners eyes, he’s is on a heater right now and I don’t see him cooling down, now he may have his one game where he lets in 4 or 5 but most of these games will be decided 3-2 / 2-1. Now I know they have more guys other than those 3 who can get it done I obviously left out Draisaitil, Bouchard, but those aforementioned 3 factors are going to be the key to this series. Let’s see if we can shut down EDM big guns like we shut down NYR big guns. We got this boys.

    I got:

    EDM/FLA(OT)/EDM(OT)/FLA/FLA/FLA(2OT-Verhaeghe)

Might be a little ambitious with the overtime’s but regardless I have Panthers in 6.

  11. Hey thanks for the mention brother. I like your point about reputation vs reality. The 2011 Bruins are certainly looked at through the same lens. I do believe that 4 of the 6 defenseman for the oilers are really going to struggle with the forecheck that the panthers put out (like every other team really) so youll see some pretty severe defensive lapses there. Should be a good series regardless. Good luck to your boys!
