An underrated guy we should get is Jordan Martinook. He’s a physical middle six guy who performs in the playoffs. I think if we add him with palat and haula our third line. It would be one of the most experienced lines in the league and would help our young core a lot
Idk about a 10th pick for a 34 year old goalie. I would rather be looking for brady t. Maybe ullmark for a 10th because he is younger.
If we do trade pick 10 for a top 6 winger, I do think that means we move one or both of Holtz/Mercer sadly for another defense/goalie piece. Also, if we’re looking for a solid defenseman, that means we would likely want to move one out as well unless we are planning to make Bahl or Siegenthaler our 7th and McDermid our 8th, which I’m also good with depending on the return. Glad to see like you said it doesn’t seem like Fitz is razor focused on one guy and getting tunnel vision. What’s also exciting for next season is Luke and Nemec won’t be rookies and that they already had to handle 20+ minutes a night so Unless there’s major injuries, they should have an easier time this season too and perform even better

Jack's size contributes to his amazing skating agility. nevertheless, if he doesn't bulk up at least 10 pounds of muscle, he may be a perennial 60-70 game a year player

I like the idea of Brossoit. I don't mind giving Kahkonen a shot as a number one, if only because he had good stats, although obvs that's a risk. I always liked Gibson in Anaheem, but I dunno now. Markstrom as a stopgap if he comes cheap. Same with Ullmark. The two D guys you mention are exactly the guys I want. Bertuzzi. Someone mentioned Martinook. I hate that guy now, but I think I'd love him on NJ lol. And of course, Brady. Putting the Brady-to-NJ gravity out into the universe.
as much as im interested in the goalie situation, im almost more curious what D and fwd pieces we go for. Watching playoff hockey this year makes me think we need a lot more to even get close to the cup.
Unfortunately i feel like this team needs to dump some players that fans would really not want to get rid of, for a different type of player to fill the role. Likely Mercer holtz siegs marino types
Question: do you see Edmonton as playing the style that NJ is aiming to play? It looks like they're not the most physical team but they've been good defensively and ridiculous on special teams.

Id like to see them grab Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, with that 10th pick. He checks all the boxes including cheap entry level contract which leaves money to go get anyone. Fitz is going to say whatever, its gamesmanship. They need to build some grit and attitude to compete. That attitude needs to flow from top down, and every player. That crap they rolled out last year wasnt beating anyone and pretty much quit after the new year.
Need a legit Center, move Jack to Wing. Jack isnt going to be lifting weights while rehabbing shoulder surgery from two injuries last season.
I agree. Markstrom isn’t worth the #10 pick. Saros is the only goalie I’d let that pick go for.
I also agree that we should take the best trades/offers available regardless of position. And then ‘adjust fire’ after that.
For instance, I’d take a cheap, albeit risky, Allen/Khakonen tandem, if it meant Brady T was rostered. But as you said, Brossoit, and maybe a few other 200 IQ acquisitions will plug the leak.
*tidbit: If we draft at 10, I hope we get Berkly Catton.
Great commentary, as usual. I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't mind re-signing Kahkonen for 2 years and roll into 2024-25 with Allen as our number one. Then put the money we'd save towards Zadorav and a solid forward. Would also like to see Palat traded and give that 'A' to Bratt.
Also wondering what will happen with Mercer. He had a rough contract year but is definitely a player I'd like to see re-signed long-term as he does have a lot of chemistry with the core.
Can’t give up the 10 pick for some goalie that’s at the end of his career and give him a 1 year contract.

As of right now, I predict Devils and Islanders will DOMINATE the Metro next season with the Devils beating the Isles in a CRAZY round 2 series to make their first ECF since 2012! There will be a Devils Panthers ECF with a chance for the Devils to go 3-0 against the Cats in the playoffs and knock off the two time ECF champions! Ironically, the Devils and Islanders are the only two teams I like in the Metro even though they have OWNED the Panthers in the playoffs!

Brady is not going to be traded this offseason. Now next year his no traded Clause which is a modify clause. That is being said, if he want out that will be the time that he could be ask to be traded. Now NJ would need to go to him and make a deal that he would want to go to NJ. So even if he want out there is still a chance he goes somewhere els that have a good chance for a Cup. Maybe joinning his brother in Florida. If I have to picked NJ over Florida, I would picked Florida.As for trading the #10 picked. It could be for Markstrom as Flames would love that picked.but will see if that happeneds.

I can only dream he takes a number 10 pick, some pixie dust and one or two existing players and turns it Tkachuk and Soros. I know I am dreaming but hell it worked for Kevin Costner in Draft Day.
Trust. As a goalie guy… Ullmark is him. Saros is a great goalie as well but he relies on his speed and athleticism. As Saros gets older he won’t be able to do what he’s doing right now and his height will hurt him. Markstrom is amazing but he’s too old… are we trying to fix our goaltending for 2 years or do we get Ullmark and fix it for 6-7 years. I think Ullmark is our best option with his height and how he plays. Only thing that scares me about big goalies is injuries.
I would like to offer the 10th for Askarov. If we want to swing on a Goalie, he is young and athletic. Another offer could be the 10th for Lankinen, Sissons, and/or Sherwood.

The very last line in the Fitz article is thing that scares me the most about Fitz. "Nothing's come my way, though." When the Devils had the #2 pick and they were linked to EVERY big time player, Fitz was 1) blindsided when Fiala was traded by Guerin (Fitz good friend) 2) celebrating his promotion of Kate Maddigan while Ottawa work the phones and snatched up DeBrincat, 3) was asleep as Husso was snatched up (ok, so maybe that one gets a pass, but he was coveted that summer) and 4) couldn't bring Gaudreau home, even though he was in the room with a pen in his hand…and don't forget him saying NJ wants the last offer on Timo…..it's like he expects GM's to come to him with a deal….that's not how Big Game Hunters go about it.
We only have 18 mil in cap space which makes a 7-8 mil goalie difficult for contract extensions
