@Devils du New Jersey

#newjerseydevils #2024nhldraft #jakobmarkstrom #linusullmark #calgaryflames #bostonbruins #njdevils

  1. Gotta take a chance on Saros. Preds don't want to pay him reports say and he would fit perfectly in our current roster timeframe

  2. Hopefully, Tom Fitzgerald is not dumb enough to trade the 10th overall for a long in the tooth , over the hill, goalie.
While Fitzgerald has FAILED for half a decade in attempting to sign a real deal legitimate NHL goalie, he simply cant be dumb enough to drop the 10th for one.
There are going to be loads of quality goalkeepers available.
Keeping Allen, of course, is going to proven to be a mistake. .900 Save percentage is no bueno and par for the course in NJ.

The 10th SHOULD go to acquire a real deal legitimate POWER forward or a legitimate gritty defenseman who….actually plays defense.

Tom Fitz is on the hot season.

  3. I like Markstrom as well for the reasons you gave. He’s cheaper and won’t cost a fortune on a future contract. Regardless the team should be busy this summer , I’m looking forward to it.

  4. Markstrom is a stellar goalie on a weak team.
Ullmark became the second string goaltender on a great team.

If you want to gamble and have someone younger and for more of a runway, Ullmark is your man. If you want guaranteed immediate success, than Markstrom is the guy. I believe NJ wants immediate success.

  5. I'd like Ullmark, but I but you it's Markstrom… and in fact, I bet the deal is already done – which helped persuade Keefe to join.

  6. I remember when Markstrom picked Calgary he said it was because it was the better team over Edmonton 😂

  7. Ha Ha Ha, Not going to be Linus Ullmark as he's already nixed a deal to the Devils at the trade deadline, And Markstrom and Gibson aren't worth the 10th overall pick and Barry Trotz wants to re-sign Juuse Saros.

  8. I think the will keep the 10th overall pick (they will NOT trade it). And I think the Devils will either trade for Markstrom or sign Ilya Samsonov to a multiyear contact in the offseason.

  9. IDK how much of a #1 goalie Ullmark is right now. Devils need a goalie that can play close to a full season and be ready come playoff time. I think 2 years ago proved that Ullmark is at best a guy who can start 50 games. And even then he wore down by the playoffs

Yeah I'd take him cause he represents an upgrade at goalie and there are only so many decent ones that will be available. But for the 10th overall pick? No way.

I could see Markstrom having a finish to his career like Bobrovsky is currently having, if he finds his way onto a contender. Still not giving up the 10th pick for him either though.

If those are the values of either of those guys, I'd hope another team pays it.

  10. One thing that has been apparent in this year’s playoffs is that you need an elite goalie to have a decent chance at going deep. But most of these options aren’t that. Ullmark proved he can’t handle the pressure. Markstrom’s too old. I only like NO GOAL

  11. Holtz is a bust. Flames could get a 1st + elsewhere. The goalie market is tight right now, so any team looking to upgrade is gonna have to pay up. Ullmark declined to waive his NTC at the deadline and im sure Boston would have to think long and hard before they decided to help a conference rival become a contender.

  12. I don't know if the Devils are willing to commit big dollars and term to a tender who has mostly thrived in a tandem situation. If so Ullmark is the guy.

If they want a guy who is a bona fide #1 and can take 60 starts a year when healthy, Markstrom is the guy.

Outside of those issues, Markstrom has played on a team whose d' has been suspect and has faced a lot of high danger chances. He was 2nd in HDSV in January before the Flames fell apart. Plus he would be way cheaper to acquire as I am sure negotiating an extension for Ullmark would be critical in the deal. IAnd as mentioned by the host, Markstrom could be re-signed and used as a mentor if mgmt. believes one of the many goalie prospects they have signed can be a future starter.

What I think would make sense for both teams is Markstrom + the Flames' 1st round pick they acquired for Lindholm from Vancouver (28th overall) for 10th overall from NJ.

  13. Not sure that either of these guys really make a ton of sense for us tbh. Markstrom had a good year after a bunch of up and down years and is going to be 35. Then we have to revisit this in two years and potentially spend draft capital/prospects on a goalie again? Ullmark could be worse with one year of control left and while I also think he’s a good goalie and younger, we saw him play for a few teams with worse defensive structures than the Bruins and he wasn’t able to bail those teams out so I’m not sure he would be that guy for us unless we fix our defensive structure too. Also he may price himself out right after this contract.

It sucks because going for the bargain goalie has skewers us a few times now, but I’d be looking at guys like Gustavvson, Adin Hill/Logan Thompson, Anthony Stolarz just had a great year, maybe even Jordan Binnington depending on where the Blues think they’re at right now. Based on goalies available, I’d opt to keep pick 10 or move for a cost controller too 6 winger for Jack or a top 4 LHD and trade Siegenthaler just to upgrade.

  14. you make a good case or either way, i would lean ullmark your team doesnt really need a 10 th pick just net stability. as a caps fan sorry vanicek didnt work out, i was a fan of his in DC, he was better than samsonoff now neither look good, funny caps got kemperer and he had a bad year , caps have goaltending up the azz in hershey , if you want to trade hughes (lol) if you get either goaltender your a cup contendar IMO

  15. NO MARKY. NO GIBSON, we need D D D D D and some 1B/1A Goalie…thats it! not super trade…no 1st rounder . Our goalies are still learning and may be better than any trade, who freakin knows?
