Not included, it hasn’t been brought out at the start of a series since before the 60s ✨

  2. Conservative-Point

Is this like the groom seeing his bride before the wedding ceremony?

  3. GoalieFatigue

Like it was the gimp from Pulp Fiction.

  4. reformedPoS

Okay I totally thought this was unusual yesterday but I was just told I was drunk…

  5. TheBossAlbatross

Kind of odd and maybe takes away from the unveiling after the victory, but not the worst thing. Not a hill to die on.

  6. Larry-thee-Cucumber

Y’all just be happy that it wasn’t brought to us by Coca Cola, the official soda beverage product of NHL hockey. In addition to our cosponsors Dodge RAM….its a truck!

  7. phatpurrly

The Cup is literally the center of the NHL’s marketing (for better or not). Seems a bit odd but not the worst impulse. Whoever wins the thing will care not at all

  8. joshuahenderson

This was awkward and I didn’t like it.

  9. Flyguyflyby

Personally, I like “as a reminder of what’s at stake”. Like these guys might forget this is what they’ve been playing the sport their whole lives for.

  10. drstu3000

The entire introduction ceremony was pure cringe

  11. SwanzY-

“here is the stanley cup in case u forgot what u’ve been chasing your whole lives, it’s shiny and tall, remember?!”

  12. Cleets11

We’re lucky. From what Elliot Friedman said it sounds like this was the compromise and the nhl wanted to do a big speech about how this is what it comes down to and this is what you’ve been fighting for.

  13. toomanyukes

    I don’t think it’s a *terrible* idea, it’s just not what we’re accustomed to.

Imagine if they’d been bringing it out like this for the past 60 years, and suddenly they decided to do it the other way. Pretty sure people would be up in arms over it.

  14. Sleezoid

I would love to see it displayed throughout the game behind the glass somewhere. Behind a net, in-between benches. Would be cool.

  15. masterbates_12

Mcdavid was trying not to look at it as it came out.. he knew it was awkward seeing the love of his life before the actual ceremony

  16. Old_Bandicoot2739

2-3 weeks? For one series?? 1-2 you mean??

  17. animalackbar

I was thinking I was crazy too, o couldn’t remember it happening before. I like it the classic way, the cup was only in the building on nights it could be taken home ramped up the pregame hype for me

  18. Nice_Alarm_2633

They actually did it just to remind people that the Stanley cup is not, in fact, that giant insulated mug in your mom’s car.

  19. Gomillionaire1206

I’ve always said it should hang in the rafters for the whole finals like the prize above the ring in WWE matches. While playing…

  20. IToldYall1

Unpopular opinion but I like this. It just puts so much pressure on the players and I love to see what they’re about in those situations. Who will crack and who will thrive

  21. PAUMiklo

people are really turning a nothing burger into a super sized combo.

  22. Weeble317

I’d have been more impressed if Daly wheeled it out with Gary in the bowl!

  23. Shortbus_Playboy

Hey, I’m just happy we’re all still alive after that drinking game that was posted.

  24. MarcDealer

Bettman can’t do anything right. No big surprise.

  25. Strypes4686

The cup should never be in the building unless one team has a chance to lift it,and you don’t shine it up until it looks like a presentation is imminent.

  26. Chemical_Hour9788

I was kind of annoyed by this too. I prefer when it wasn’t spotted in house until it was winnable that night.

  27. Falcon674DR

    It’s known as…a dumb fuck’n idea.
