Personal opinion – sounds like the Canes are posturing. He wants out and they probably don’t want to lose him for nothing. I’m guessing something gets done with a team before the draft.
Trade a pick and sign him for 7 years.
I don’t hate the idea of buying low on Laine (assuming the Hawks aren’t on his no trade list). He’d give Bedard are legit scoring threat and he fits the blueprint of being a short term deal. Just a matter of what they’d have to give up.
As for Necas, I’m curious what the asking price is. He’s projected to get a 7 year x $7.5 million deal which seems appropriate. Not sure id go much higher for him.
Article says we’re looking to overpay a top 6 forward but on a short 1-2 year deal.
Who could be our target? Guentzel is obviously looking for something longer.
