Well this sucks. Who or what can we get for him? Any of the players who are available for trade probs wouldn’t come here (Marner, etc.) Only trade that maybe can happen is a Necas trade

4th, Laine, and another piece for tkachuk

  3. Not too upset about this. Laine has been decent… when he’s on the ice. His numbers look good, but he’s also a super streaky player. Between his injuries and his personal battles, I don’t think he will ever return to what he once was.

I do wish him the best though. And unfortunately, we probably won’t get anything of value back.

Can’t blame him. I don’t think this team has done well with player management. I hope he changes his mind, but I understand it.

The thing that sucks most about this is Laine’s value is basically at an all time low. Wish him the best getting whatever he needs, but hopefully we don’t get bent over accommodating him on this trade request.

Sad but that’s fine. I get it, he went through a lot here. Not sure how much of a return we can get for him at this point though, I mean when he was healthy he was starting to look like a star again so maybe GMs will take that into consideration?

Kinda sucks, I get it, but his trade value is probably so freaking low right now

I was honestly already hoping we would move on from Laine with the change of management, he has never impressed me here. Just hoping we can get a decent package for him

I think we all need to get ready for an underwhelming return, but if it opens up nearly $9 million in cap space and we don’t retain, that gives us options.

I wish him nothing but the best, but he could use a change of scenery and he and Gaudreau simply can’t play together, and he can’t drive his own line, which is a huge issue.

I had a feeling Laine was on his way out after the season ended. Sucks how his time here hasn’t worked great and I hope he can find success elsewhere.

I hope he reconsiders with the new management, at least for a year, but I understand either way.

[NHL rumblings: Trade talk heats up on Laine, Necas, Ehlers and more, plus latest on Cooper-Canada](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5559868/2024/06/12/nhl-trade-rumblings-laine-necas-ehlers/)

    Laine fresh start

“My understanding is that the Columbus Blue Jackets intend to work with Patrik Laine’s camp, led by agent Andy Scott of Octagon, on finding the star winger a fresh start with a new team.

Laine remains in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, having sought help back in January. He also recently had a minor shoulder cleanup procedure, but that’s not expected to be an issue. The expectation is that he’ll be ready to go for next season.

The 26-year-old 2016 No. 2 pick has two years left on his contract at an $8.7 million cap hit, and given his offensive struggles in Columbus, it may not be a huge market for him. On the other hand, there’s the allure of a potential bounceback season for a star player energized by a fresh start. Depending on the acquisition cost, a team might see itself picking up a 40-goal scorer at a reduced price.

Laine has a 10-team no-trade list, so his camp will have some say in things, but again, the idea is that new Jackets general manager Don Waddell and Laine’s agent want to work on this together to find a new spot for the player.”
