    Heard a good report yesterday on the leafs " forcing a marner trade " .
    They are wanting to trade him, but they need to handle it delicately and not cause a seen.
    They are not going to marner first and asking him to waive and accept a trade. What they are doing is, letting teams know marner is available, and fielding offers.
    If, and only if they get an offer they like, then they approach marner.
    If no reasonable offers come their way, marner plays out his contract.
    Basically they arn't going to upset the apple cart until the ideal situation arises.

    Leafs HAVE NOT INDICATED THEY WANT TO GET RID OF MARNER. Seriously…everyone is talking like these things are likely to happen but what is most likely is Treliving comes out and says "Marner is a superstar talent that is hard to find…let alone let go…"

    Tavares to Utah makes absolutely no sense unless tor pays to trade him there. Plenty of veterans for Utah to sign in free agency would be idiotic to trade any assets for an aging player

    Why do you keep talking about the Leaves as if they even matter?? Yeah, its a big market (for Canaduh), but they havent been relevant since there were so few teams that relevance was bought by how few teams there were (looking at you too MTL).

    Bill Armstrong is absolutely too smart to trade for Tavares. Utah needs to make a splash, but I think Vince Dunn is where they need to go. People act oblivious to how much talent Utah has up front. To think that Guenther and Doan arent full timers yet.

    Tavares is interesting, given the fact hes in a HEAP of tax trouble here in Canada, im 100% confident, he could use the extra $$ that Utah would pay him ( a cpl extra mil) to bridge the gap that he owes to the CRA (hes lost his court case and will lose his appeal too). Interesting…. he could def use those extra millions

    A lot of blame gets heaped on Marner. There seemingly is a constant clamor by largely fanatical Leaf fans to move him out. Now Tavares and even Rielly are being targeted and scape goated, and they, too, supposedly need to go..These fanatics are on a fool's errand if there ever was one, and axing 2 or 3 players will NOT solve the myriad of problems facing the Leafs.

    A plausible scenario is neither Tavares or Marner are traded, and both are resigned. Marner in a top 10 salary deal and Tavares for about $5.5 million for 4 years. Leafs brass thinking with the coaching change, new starting goalie, infusion of possible young talent like recent draft picks, along with a few free agent signings will get them past round 1 next year.

    I don’t know how invested Utah will be in trading their young talent. If you listen closely to what Ryan Smith and Bill Armstrong have said, Ryan empowers the people he’s chosen, and then resists the temptation to meddle with the team and decision making process. Bill has said that he can’t skip steps and that building the roster is a process. So I don’t think that they are going to offer more than a one to two year contract for outside players that don’t fit their age range for the offensive players. Big name forwards are not likely targets as they can hamper development of the existing players. I see them being very targeted in their decision making to target young players in their 20s and not making a big splash in free agency
