@Devils du New Jersey

1. No way do you trade a 23 year old for a 35 year old goalie….Fans cried about Rango wait until Holtz takes a step forward…..

  2. 8:25 – I really think Holtz was originally in the Timo deal. I remember it taking some time for the details to get finalized, and at the time there was a report that one of the players in the deal had an injury so it was holding things up. Holtz was in the AHL at the time and had a minor injury. Don't remember hearing his name for sure, but would make sense that he was originally part of the deal and then swapped last minute.

  3. Jake Allen, Nico Daws, Akira Schmid. All three can be traded. I think we should package 2 and some assets for Markstrom, not our first rounder, We have Jakub Malek 6 foot 4 monster who should get his shot soon. We have the next Ben Bishop, All we need is Markstrom for 3/4 years and let Malek settle in and get NHL games. Make Malek the starter come 2028

  4. I don't see Haula or Lazar; not because they are indispensable, but because they don't have the value that Calgary would want. Beyond that, I don't see the D is untouchable. Bahl, Marino, or Siegenthaler are definitely tradable; unlike Hamilton, Hughes, and Nemec. If one is traded, considering free agency is just around the corner, the Devils would just add a guy like Dillon to replace whoever they traded out.

Finally, while I personally wouldn't be in favor of this given his production with limited time; I do see a guy like Holtz having value to the right team. And last year, the organization didn't seem to value him that much… but who knows, Keefe & his simpler system might be better for him.

All in all, I would hate it if the Devils traded the 10th overall for him. His age is a risk and, outside of high danger chances, he hasn't had great overall save percentages over the last few seasons. So, given his age, performance, and with goaltending always being up in the air, he simply isn't worth a top 10 pick anymore (maybe a few years ago, but the past is the past). And that is all without considering that Calgary pulled the rug out from under the last deal. Given that, I wouldn't want to give a similar/or/more than I was offering before. As that is how a GM gets a reputation of one that others can take advantage of; sometimes the trades you don't make are more valuable than the ones you do.

In the end, if they ask for to much, just pay that for Saros or Ullmark. If they are ok with a more depth trade (a 3rd and a prospect?), then sure; make the trade for Markstorm. And if all that fails, in the very least, go out and get Kähkönen or Stolarz (Kähkönen we know played decently given a small sample size, and Stolarz has put up decent numbers the last couple of seasons.). They might work as stop gaps so other teams don't try and take advantage of Fitz's in a desperate situation.

  5. Saying Haula is the epitome of what we need is absurd. I don't hate him, but I sure as hell don't love him either. I remember games when we're down 1 or 2 goals or whatever, and Haula's body language was sad to watch and a bad influence on younger players. I remember times where his urgency level very apparently was not there. I would much rather have a Stephenson, Stenlund, Monahan or Sissons. Get Markstrom and entertain Haula in a trade for another center maybe. Either way we need a center to fill in McLeod's career year regardless

  6. Lost to many prospects need to go after the three or four free agent goalies like Hart and Murray and Samsonov Kaapo would get more then just 2 years from them and not kill future teams not close to being a contender Trade Bahl and Jonas add Dillon and Skjei

  7. I don't mind trading down for Markstrome but no way you give up the 10th pick for a 34 year old goalie

  8. Markstrom is a patch that only works if the Devils were there to make a serious run at the cup. At 34 I say pass, yes he makes us better but not Stanley Cup contender better…

  9. Would say we’ll get Markstrom w/o giving up the 1st round pick. If we do give it up, Calgary better retain 50% and throw in a roster player

  10. I don't know what Markstrom's perceived value is around the league, but for all the reasons you feel he is the goalie to go after, there are other teams who feel the same way. Two have been mentioned, but from what I understand the Kings have inquired and Markstrom has established he won't waive to go to a Western Conference team. So there could be more. I know it has been speculated Carolina has talked to Calgary as well.

I could be wrong, but don't think that Holtz and a third is going to get it done. I could see Calgary's ask being Markstrom and Vancouver's first round pick (28th OA) for #10 OA. I could also see them targeting Dawson Mercer for the same return instead of 10 OA. I could also envision the talks developing into a bigger deal involving Markstrom, Rasmus Andersson and 28 OA for 10 OA and Mercer. If I were the Devils I would take the last one.

I doubt CGY has any interest in a 33 year old Haula at this stage of their rebuild/re-tool. Lazar was in the Flames organization and is a 4th liner with a one-year deal, so I think he is safe too. 😉

  11. Sorry man but I don’t agree with the point that you have to keep defensemen cause they were bad last year. I would trade siegenthaler and/or bahl and try to make moves on guys along the lines of pesce skeji or larsson

  12. Also for goalies low key I have a feeling about Spencer knight from Florida being a long term trade option in addition to a vet. Might be a lower price due to off ice issues and Bob

  13. I like markstrom and brady T for the 10th pick, holtz or mercer, and a Prospect…or 2.

  14. They are going to overpay for a mediocre, old a** goalie. And they’re determined to get rid of HOLTZ, which is a big mistake.

  15. The holtz situation is so weird. He didn’t appear, at least to me, to be as much as a liability as other players and he had a decent amount of goals for sheltered 4th line minutes. They should have tried him in a middle 6 role when the season was shot

  16. I think Casey will be attractive to teams, and probably not going to get into the Devils team anytime soon so, he might be included in a trade package for a goalie.

  17. CGY wants that 10 pick. They will do whatever it takes to get it. There is a very strong chance if this trade happens it will be 10 for Markstrom and 28 – Flames fan

  18. I think you include siegenthaler and then you just sign a better defenseman..who said you have to replace him with Casey?

  19. You want a tender of markstrums caliber it costs you a 1st Calgary will let markstrum rot on the bench a third doesn't get it done. This probably will cost you a 1st and a prospect. If you get markstrum you won't be disappointed but he won't be free third and a prospect doesn't get it done.

  20. Haha 3rd and 2nd level prospect won't cut it. The starting point of a late 1st has already been established.

  21. Last time I checked New Jersey desperately needs a starter, and the Flames don't have to trade Markstrom…

  22. Man you're out to lunch if you think you can get Markstrom for a 3rd round pick. That is really laughable. Other teams would offer way more. Worse case scenario, the Flames will keep Markstrom as they will not be giving him away.

  23. Can’t take this guy seriously. First and last time watching. What a joker…NJ trades its riffraff for a goalie that is so good NJ desperately needs him…clown!

  24. On the main Flames discussion board there are a few guys that allegedly have had inside info on Flames trades in the past both claiming that an NJ "deal in principle" for Markstrom is done, they just arent going to announce it during the Stanley Cup final. Take that for what its worth but Flames fans "in the know" are saying it has already happened. Stay tuned.
