How realistic do you think any of these are? I like the idea of Cirelli, especially with the cap going up in the next few years

Ehlers – I don’t think that pick alone gets it done. But I also don’t think it takes a lot more on top. I’d rather pay a bit more to get additional term.

Cirelli – I don’t think this even starts the conversation. The Bolts must see the next year or two as the end of their current window.

Laughton – I find it comical that the Sabres are in the market for a third line centre of this caliber. It makes me wonder what sort of d-man the 11th pick could have gotten.

Kakko – I think this might be a little steep of a price to pay for a guy that has underwhelmed to this point. I really like Kakko but I’d rather use the pick for something more and add him for a player in the system.

Would much rather move prospects already in our system for players, that way we can stagger our rookies a bit. Right now we have like 3-4 guys that are 1-2 years away and nothing else. Having Benson make the team immediately, and trading this pick would leave us a few years where we won’t have any cheap rookie contracts coming up.

Wouldn’t mind us gunning for Kakko, but 11OA is too steep of a price to pay imo

Could’ve just ended the article after Ehlers. Trading the 11th for Laughton or Kakko would be a disaster.

Ehlers for 11OA without an extension probably gets it done. No one else would offer that value during the off-season for a rental.

Cirelli would be a great addition, but I’m also not certain the money makes sense if you’re also gunning for a top 6 forward. To me it’s one or the other, you either get Cirelli at 3C for 6M or you get a top 6 FWD, so you leave yourself enough breathing room to re-sign Quinn, Peterka, UPL, Benson, Byram, Levi, etc comfortably.

Laughton is a non-starter for me. If you want to acquire him to play 4C and be your « gritty forechecker, » that’s the only role I see him in. He’s in the negatives at every area on the ice statistically, and that doesn’t get 11OA.

Kakko is interesting but also not 11OA worthy. Kakko has had one good year in the NHL offensively, and the rest have been pretty bad. He’s a defensively responsible player who you could slot into your 3rd line, and he’d be a good addition there and wait and hope to see if he breaks out a la Mittelstadt later in his career. If you can get him for a 2nd and maybe a B- tier prospect like Poltapov I’d probably go for that.

I would like to pick up Kakko. I’d prefer to hold onto the 11th OA pick and move a prospect like Rosen and a pick or Rosen and another prospect.
