Can’t wait to go through another goalie search in 2 years.

  2. OgreUAsshole

Not my first choice but better than what we had

  3. rocketboi10

We’re gonna be the 2022 Devils again

  4. GoodVibes444

Was hoping for more than a goalie turning 35 this season with a .905 save percentage

  5. Substantial_Trip_226

I get the team needed to make a move for a goalie, and I sure hope I am wrong, but I don’t think Markstrom is the answer

  6. sapphires_and_snark

Thread about to be flooded with reasonable takes

  7. cody-has93

I like it idc. We can use him as a short term bridge while other young guys in our pipeline develop and we can see what the goalie market looks like in 2 or 3 years.

Locking down ullmark or saros for like 5 to 8 years is just as risky imo.

  8. snootchie_bootch

Not the ideal solution to our problem, but it’s definitely a step up over what we had. Run Markstrom/Allen for next year and reassess then. Maybe one of the young kids is set to go, or maybe re-sign Allen, or maybe look for another 1B.

If our contention window is open, we need to capitalize and start making progress with it.

  9. For my money, its was Ullmark over Markstrom. Gotta see what the details are for though. Either way, its a clear upgrade for us, and if it didnt cost us TOO much then it should give us flexibility to keep making moves.

I am holding off on reacting until I know who we gave up.

  11. randy_theastonishing

It’s so hard not to be cynical

  12. Kornja81

I like it. Best option available without giving up the most. Hopefully Daws or Schmid are better in 2 years (if not involved in this deal)

  13. RealisticGarlic7779

Appararently we did not give up the 10 OA pick

  14. hobbygod

Looks like only 2025 1st and Bahl. I don’t mind it.. I liked Bahl but he’s got the body of a hulk and the physicality of a cabbage patch kid.

  15. Satanic_Doge

Not my first choice, but still an upgrade. Saaros isn’t getting dealt and Ullmark might not be either.

Now the question is: how much did we pay for this?

EDIT: I was high on Bahl and still am, but I’m open to be proven wrong. We kept Holtz and all of our current prospects.

  16. NJDevils1

Don’t mind the trade one bit seeing what we gave up. I like Bahl but he’s far from irreplaceable.

  17. Grimmer026

Should’ve just re-signed kahkonen. We now have a 35 year old starter and a 34 year old back. I don’t see how this makes us better. I’m a fan of Calgary too as they are the Canadian team I root for. I’ve watched enough flames games to know that we will 100% regret this. Markstrom would’ve lost his job 2 seasons ago if Wolfe was ready.

  18. voxangelikus

How old was Crawford when we signed him? A year or two older? Because I was excited for that and he got one injury and immediately decided to retire.

  19. thedirewolff21

Not a terrible trade tho Bahl has more potential than hes shown. Wish him all the best tho. Lets make sure that 25 first is a late one. Welcome aboard Marky

  20. ilovemyar15

Damn. Fitz is REALLY betting on this team having a major bounce back. If we pick ~22nd or over it’s a good deal, but if we give up something like the 13th pick that is a major yikes.

Also shout out to Kevin Bahl. Its been fun big fella

  21. TheNightRain68

Pick is top 10 protected apparently

  22. powatwain

Don’t love it, but don’t hate it

If Markstrom plays well, and the team plays up to what they’re supposed to, it’s a late 1st

I like Bahl, but didn’t take the steps I thought he would last year

  23. Treed225

Calgary retaining 31% makes it even better

  24. AfroDevil30

The only downside is he is on the backend of his career. But he is a major upgrade & can possibly help develop a younger goalie before he retires.

It’s not a long term solution but we want to win NOW. The rebuild is over.

  25. Drunkenaviator

Looks like Bahl’s Out after all…

  26. RunningM8

People in this sub acting all somehow disappointed after supposedly watching last season. SMH.

  27. SeaAlgea

This is a fucking AWESOME trade. Y’all should be pumped

  28. sanbaba

Woooowwww. Sucks to give up Bahl, but 31% retained for hopefully a shitty 1st, I think I can live with this. Let’s all pray for Marky’s hips and groin! 🙏🙏🙏

  29. Anonycron

I don’t hate this move. But this is a stopgap solution in net (dude is 35) and we got smaller and weaker on D.

Have to go out and address the latter now, and start thinking about the former.

  30. Very happy with it. Thats a totally fine price to give up for a potential #1. Obviously Saros would have been more inspiring but this one is still a very fine deal.

  31. SnooHamsters8997

Goalie check…. Now let’s move the 10OA and G K. From the sharks for Brady T!!!!!!

  32. -PoeticJustice-

I’ve been a Markstrom truther since the deadline, let’s gooooo. Not giving up much and the Flames retaining is just a full-on win. No more excuses, let’s see how we plug the few remaining holes in the roster and take a run at it all next year

  33. TheJerkInPod6

I’m happy. This is a very good move. That might feel high but that’s what great goalies cost these days.

I asked before “is this a serious franchise or not?” I still need to see how the season plays out obviously, but moves like this make me think they’re serious about obtaining success. It’s gonna take a little more but between a proven coach that plays to our strengths and a superb goalie with a proven track record, we’re on the way.

  34. I_can_vouch_for_that

Markstrom was the only reason Calgary was in a lot of the games last year. This is a good pickup for Jersey.

  35. Blaaamo

Do you see the goalie not named Bob that’s in the finals??

Do you all see the « stud/superstar » goalies that aren’t?
