  1. Let’s go that’s such a huge win. 3.6 million in extra space and we get rid of a liability

  2. wistfulspongebobbest

Not sure how Drury pulled this off but bravo. Trouba next pls.

  3. bobby_booch

Bye Goody. Heart and soul guy who gave everything he had, but that contract was just too big. Wish him all the best.

  4. NoReplacement9001

Very sad. He was brought it to do one job and he executed that this playoff season. It was our best chance in decades squandered because of the likes of Panarin, Mika, and Trouba. Fucking sucks.

Will miss you, goody! That shorty and tip in will live in my memory forever, you amazing fucker.

Sorry we sucked because our superstars wouldn’t muster up your effort and execution. Good luck in SJ

  5. Really doesn’t get any better than this for us. Didn’t have to give up anything and we get 3.6 back on the cap

  6. sovietdoppelganger

Absolutely massive. Good guy but a horrible player for that cap hit. Saving 3.6 a year over the next 3 essentially makes buying out Trouba a complete wash (4 – 4 – 2 – 2 cap hit over the next 4). Likewise, you can retain 50% and trade him, opening up roughly 7.6 million that we didn’t have to acquire a legit top 6 RW and top 4 defenseman.

  7. PM_ME_YOUR_COMMAS

I have always said this, Mike Grier is a great GM

  8. WOW cannot believe this actually happened. Good luck to Goody in San Jose!

  9. You know this is a smart move because r/hockey is losing their shit over it

  10. Zero-jiggler

Huge W. That contract was terrible and was only gonna get worse. Need all the flexibility we can get with cap hell coming up next offseason.

Gonna be funny watching Celebrini drag his ass up and down the ice lol.

  11. I cant believe they were actually able to get rid of his last 3 years with no penalty lol. Best case scenario. Trouba next please

  12. Does the $3.6m in extra space give us a chance at Marchessault or Guentzel? Please help salary cap nerds

  13. MyNameIsLegend

Called it [yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/rangers/comments/1dix8gn/friedman_barclay_goodrow_is_on_waivers_today/l96va6q/) (before the Post article, mind you), but still surprised that Drury wiggled his way out of this contract. I’m also surprised that Goodrow seemingly blocked a trade to SJ, forcing it to play out this way. It’s not a huge thing, but is it better optics to be claimed off waivers than traded for a 7th/PTBNL?

Regardless, Goodrow should be a good culture fit there. Didn’t like his on-ice play, but can’t argue against his effort and heart. Scored some huge goals for us this post-season, but you can’t bank on a 30% SH going forward (…and he still ended up getting outscored in his minutes).

  14. this is huge. really opens us up to sign a top 6 RW + we dont have to worry about any dead space when Laf/Igor come due or during 2026 when a ton of free agents hit the market.

Goodrow was arguably our biggest 5v5 detriment and 5v5 is our teams weakness.

That said, I appreciate his electric goals in this years playoffs (especially that OT top shelf laser beam), his amazing PK prowess & overall he was a true pro throughout his tenure. Best of luck in San Jose!

  15. Aggravating_Frame597

Truly wish him the best, I enjoyed watching him with New York, but I know there is better options for the money and what the team needs, hope he does well and hope we get someone solid as replacement!

  16. Man we’re lucky, hopefully Drury learned that you can have players like goodrow for 900k-1.5 Mil

  17. Beautiful. Thank you Goodrow, thank you Mike Grier, and thank the San Jose Sharks.

  18. Krispyford

Holy shit. I figured something was in the works, but I’m legitimately stunned it actually happened.

Great guy, solid player, terrible contract. I really hope we make some big moves this off season. We need some sort of a shake up to the core.

  19. That’s a hell of a backdoor deal Drury pulled off. It’s too bad he fizzled out, have to think all that hard nosed playoff style took a toll on him. Still a fighter though

  20. nyrangersfan77

Get your bets in on SJ making the playoffs next year! Barclay can’t be stopped!

It’s a sad reality of the cap era (especially with the pandemic flattening the cap) that we end up with someone like Goodrow where you love the player but hate the contract. At least he went out with a bang in a playoff run where he scored some big goals. No hard feelings here.

  21. BeesVBeads

Good player bad contract. Hope he does well in all but 2 games next year.

  22. Back when the Rangers got him I said his contract isn’t quite as terrible if you view it as two separate 3 yr deals – one for now and another when it’s time to trade him. It was all BS copium to justify a bad move by Drury but in hindsight it’s funny how that’s more or less exactly how this worked out lmao.

I’m also glad that this fanbase has come around to the fact that he was just as terrible in the playoffs as he was in the regular season but benefitted from Bob letting in a few goals he should not have.

  23. TheSasukeDive

He really stepped up for us in the playoffs. It may not have worked out here but I wish him luck

  24. Who_pooped_the_bed11

Wish him all the best. Appreciate what he did for us. But this is a fucking GIFT and I’m floored lol

  25. Mutual win here. Happy for Goodrow, happy for SJ, happy for us. Good stuff and wish him all the best

  26. How. The. Fuck. Did. That. Happen?

“Hey, let us take that shitty contract off your hands. No…no need to help out. Nope, we don’t need a player or a swap with one if our bad contracts.”

  27. pierogi-daddy

i truly did not think someone would claim that god awful contract. it was truly among the worst of the last few years for a non top 6 player
