Its’ allll the deets. I would much rather have had Ullmark, however Bruins didn’t really have much to counter balance any trade if picks were involved. Flames do. Probably trading down our top pick for their lower first round and exchange a roster player while we give up the better skater.

Edit: Bahl and 25 1st. THAT IS AMAZING! I’m all about it now!

How I feel about this will depend on what we gave up. Damn, I was really hoping for Saros

  3. Korypal

Waiting for details but this is objectively good, needed a top tier goalie and we got him.

If we actually got Markstrom that really means that management thinks that Daws, Poulter, or Schmid are the actual future and we just need a temporary stop gap while they continue to marinate.

  6. As long as the return is reasonable, I’m very cool with this. Hes cost controlled, not long term and with elite upside. Gives us flexibility and lets the internal guys proper time to get experience

  7. Worst high end option possible basically Idk man this shit screams were gonna be mid.

    MIDDDD MIDDDDDD MIDDDDDDDD

this trade will screw us so bad, 34 yo goalie, ~.900svp, this coming year will be no better than last, mark my words

I’m so angry. I just threw my phone at my office monitor and everyone is looking at Me. They better not call HR again

I don’t want to panic, but I am panicking.

  11. SkellySkeletor

More than fine with this. Management has given every indication they planned on letting Daws/Schmid develop into our starters, and for the time being till then we needed a genuine 1A tendy. Provided the return isn’t insane, happy with those choice.

What are the odds we didn’t have to give up our first round pick? If we are able to hold on to it, maybe it will be a good deal.

  13. Mr_Meowser

Y’all are nuts. This is a huge win. We can not keep wasting years of this window on unproven goalies

  14. pdubbs87

Fitz locks onto guys too much if this is true

  15. Fresh_Pop_790

This is a good fucking move he’s playing the best hockey of his career he hasn’t had a huge workload over the years and for reference Bob is in the Cup right now and he’s older than Markstrom is LFG great goalies are hard to come by

  16. Deranged-Pickle

They better take salary. 6 million for a goalie over 30 is bad

  17. TheWeisGuy

What happened to the league average goaltending crowd? This is exactly what we got and that’s good enough

  18. MaroonMarauder

Curious as to the cost to really make an opinion. Def would have preferred a younger option to secure the position for the long haul, but can understand if the price there was astronomical. Especially since everyone knows our position and we have 0 leverage so we can be forced to overpay.

Dreger just said it’s for Bahl and a 25 first, huge W.

  20. Bahl+ a 25 top ten protected first rounder is about as good a deal as you could ask imo

Bahl is just a guy and if we’re picking better than 15 next year, things are in the toilet anyway

  21. ilovemyar15

I was hoping for Ullmark, but it makes sense why the org like Markstrom so much. Cost controlled, and if he doesn’t pan out we only have him for two seasons.

My happiness/depression meter fully depends on the rest of the trade and what pieces we gave up.

  22. just_here_for_rgolf

Erika Wachter and 10OA for Markstrom and 28OA

  23. Good value. I think this sets up Fitz to get help on D with our 1st this year.

  24. SubParandLovingit

I really hope we didn’t get bamboozled out of desperation…that said, the way Jake Allen played, a tandem of him and Markstrom might be a-ok for now lol

  25. HockeyGoalieEh

Over the past three seasons, Markstrom has saved 56.6 goals above replacement, 11th in the league. The Devils saved .3 over replacement, 30th in the league. Maybe this blows up in their faces, but they had to do something. They couldn’t keep rolling out netminders that were barely more competent than replacement level backup goalies and hope to compete.

  26. JohnnyThaJet

Someone put Markstrom in football terms as a player

  27. TheVagWhisperer

The devil is in the details here. Realistically could we expect more than one or two good years from markstrom? I simply don’t know. We have to assume he’s here for those contract years only. He’s 34 and could fall off a cliff at any time. But we’ve seen goaltenders play well into their late ’30s. I’m going to assume Fitz felt the price was way too high on younger guys. And from everything I’ve seen that does appear to be true.

If we didn’t give up much for him, I really like the deal. The contract is very very good.

  28. SolidSnake-26

Why did we give up on Akira? For a 34 y/o goalie….
