It’s a weird thing where, I’d be the first person to tell you a premium 3rd pair defender costs about ~3-3.75 million/year, on a 2-3 year term.
But I am totally willing to throw that rationale out the window, because of how much of a unicorn Zadorov is.
He’s a player that you pay a premium for, but also hopefully you get a discount? I know this logic makes no sense.

Call it blind faith, but lately I just always expect this management team to surprise me in a good way. My whole adult life as a canucks fan has been waiting for things to not work out, but I feel the exact opposite now. I’m just waiting for them to announce the zadorov signing and for it to be at a more reasonable hit than many expect, follow that up with a mikheyev trade that also ends up being much more fair value than everyone is suggesting it would be. Then Joshua, and then Guentzel, and lastly a Myers sweetheart deal and all of a sudden we’re like, wow, they got a huge chunk of the team filled out and still have more money than we thought they would!
Wishful thinking, clearly, but for the first time in forever it feels like it’s OK to hope for the best .

Yes I’m delulu but I just gotta say I think he’s got incredible off-ice value that absolutelt should be considered when making these decisions. He bonded really quickly with the other guys (good for locker room morale), he’s great with the press, and overall brings a lot of personality to the team (which tbh I felt has been a little lacking since the kuzmenko trade)
Guys like this are few and far between

I’d bet my house that if we sign this guy to what he wants we’ll be regretting it like 2 years in. This is the exact kind of deal you shouldn’t make and everyone’s okay with it for some reason.
