    wtf? Is this real???

I guess that’s one way to save cap space. Later, Griddy. Give Zadina a hug for me

  2. petoskey_stone

This folks, is what we call a move before “the move”.

  3. John-Balaya

Woah!! I mean we know we needed to free up the left side and some of our cap but this one is not a headline I was expecting on a Tuesday

  4. culturedrobot

    Bro what da fuck.

    Something’s brewing in the D.

  5. BellsBeersy

    WHAT

Future considerations being facilitating a massive trade with someone else?

  6. SubmissionDenied

Ok this doesn’t make sense. I get Walman « wasn’t himself » at the end of the season. But a pick to go along with him…

  7. needuhlife19

We gave away a 2nd to get rid of Walman..?

Something must have soured for Jake to be worth nothing. And I have to imagine we’re going big for grabbing that cap space.

  8. detsportfan

Probably was too pricey to move Holl or Chiarot. Don’t think this move is a setup for anything other than retaining our own guys

  9. Own_Flower1947

I seriously do not understand this trade. I thought walman had some value

  10. The_ManWithNoName

WTF! we gave away a 2nd to get ride of Walman. I don’t like this at all.

  11. TheAnalogKid18

Not how I envisioned us getting the Edvinsson – Seider pairing, but ok.

  12. -DonnieDarko-

Clearing space… for something. Kane money? New FA?

  13. WHAT??????

Walman is good and cheap. And we threw in a second rounder? wtf?

  14. beardofzetterberg

So we trade Gibson for the 2nd that we use to sweeten the deal to offload Walman and pick up a prospect? wtf happened between Walman and Y?

    So we give:
    – Gibson
    – Walman

    We get:
    – Kiiskinen
    – Future considerations (bag of pucks)

? There must be something we don’t know about Walman that soured him to the point where, not only are we offloading him, not only are we not getting anything for him, but we are PAYING a 2nd to get him off our books.

  15. MyHandIsAMap

    [Insert Padme and Anakin meme]

Wings did what everyone wanted and traded a defenseman.

    Holl or Chiarot right?

IT WAS HOLL OR CHIAROT RIGHT?

  16. The_ManWithNoName

I feel like someone would have claimed him for free on waivers. He’s a positive asset. Not a cap dumb.

  17. DropkickMurph24

This hopefully is an instance where « future considerations » may actually be something of value, just isn’t known yet. Right?

    Right?

Maybe SJ facilitates retention or something on another deal that had to happen separately from this one?

Otherwise I can’t see how Walman has negative value to 31 teams in this league

  18. Scary-Extent5740

I must be dumb will someone please explain all this to me.
First off -you must’ve been high on Gibson if you took him in the second round. Also one of the only prospects with grit . Yet they trade him a year later?

Second off-why would you want future considerations instead of that second round pick when you’re in a rebuild. They could’ve had two picks in the second round or used one for trade bait. Not to mention threw in one of our best offensive defenseman which we lack.

So we basically swapped last years second round pick for a redo in this years draft . Then gave away a second round pick and Wallman for a pack of skittles…..

Please some explain…..you mean to tell me Yzerman got this team in such a cap hell we had to trade wallman and sweeten the pot with a second rounder just to clear cap space???? If so, that’s very bad management

  19. Aww man! I liked Walman. So long Griddy.

Hopefully we can turn this into something big.

  20. The only way this makes sense is if it’s part of a multi-team trade and we aren’t seeing the other sides of the trade reported yet, or if Walman has some undisclosed career ending injury.

Even if for some reason NHL GMs are much lower on Walman than fans, and you decide you want to move on from Walman, you have to try and see if he gets claimed off waivers before paying an asset to move him, correct?

  21. Actual_Cobbler_6334

Unless there’s issues with Walman like there was Vrana this is dumb, imo.

  22. non_target_eh

That’s not how you spell Justin Holl

  23. cutyourhair

If you asked me yesterday, what’s more realistic:

    – Walman and a 2nd as a cap dump for nothing

    Or

    – Walman and a 2nd for a starting goalie or McGroarty

I would not have thought about it for a second before answering the latter.

  24. SuperGimpDean

Maybe Kane said he’ll only re-sign if they get rid of Walman because he got in the way when he was trying to yell showtime. That’s all I got. This is BAFFLING.

  25. LGRW_Sparty88

Saw an interview with him this summer talking about how he hopes he’ll be around a long time to do his charity work in the city and at the time thought it was a no brainer. Just stunned right now, hope it works out for everyone but wow.

  26. https://x.com/i/web/status/1805687303547101687

    > League source tells me about Walman trade: “Yzerman needed cap space…greater opportunity for Walman.”
    >
    > I’m guessing this is a prelude to a big splash by Stevie Y soon

My understanding is this guy is a well thought of SJ beat writer.

  27. CopsPushMongo

Watch the future consideration turn out to be Zadina after he catches fire (finally) /s

  28. Wrath_Of_Aguirre

*Does a slow, sad griddy as a single tear falls from face*

  29. While I am not currently ready to burn it all down to the ground I am sourcing a torch

  30. TheShowPony85

Man, tough to let go, he had some nice goal production for us, physical player, and blocked a lot of shots. Liked him in the Winged Wheel.
