  1. Oilers front office has a lot of heavy lifting to do this offseason. I don't envy them but all contenders go thru this.

  2. I don't think this was a one hit wonder opportunity for Edmonton. Their depth showed up, and it was not just Mcdavid carrying them back to game 7. Mediocre teams don't come back from a 0-3 deficit in the Stanley cup finals. If they want to get serious they need to likely continue to add additional scoring or a defensemen who can eat bigger minutes.

Florida did this by adding Tarasenko the year after they lost.

  3. Take the hit and do what they need to get rid of campbell a lot of players would be willing to take the salary loss for another shot at the cup they were so close a few minor tweeks and a bit of luck and they are there. Leon didnt impress me at all in the finals he played like Eberle in their playoff run and that didnt turn out well for him. He missed countless shots from "his" wheelhouse that he never would have missed throughout the season and he skated like he was wearing concrete overboots if hes lookin for a big upgrade id consider trading him off to pick up another playoff veteran.

  4. The salary cap has really hampered good management. Managers have gone from being judged on their ability to identify talent to being judged on their ability to negotiate contracts

  5. If the Oil can move on from Campbell and Nurse, they will be able to sign Bouch and Drai right away. I really feel like Nurse can be very good, but I don't see it happening in Edmonton. He'll likely be one of those guys who gets traded and is a nightmare everytime his team plays the Oilers. Campbell can be a starting goalie or a third stringer on any given night, and with Stu getting better and better and Pickard being consistent, I don't think there's a home in Edmonton for Soup.

  6. You pay more for Nurse then the Avs pay for Cale? What were they smoking when they wrote that contract up? To get some one to take that contract off your hands will be a First and Second round pick for the next 3 years…..lol

  7. Why is there no mention of the age of the players? When you published reviews of other teams, was this a central theme? What has changed now?)

  8. Seravalli and Bob Stauffer sound confident negotiations have already begun and McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard will sign extensions totaling $40m.

Our top line is set. Holloway will re-sign and play with Draisaitl. Kane may need to be traded for a winger who can score goals to play with Drai and Holloway. Hopefully we can re-sign Brown and Janmark, Henrique probably costs too much to keep. Maybe Nuge can centre that 3rd line but we'd need another winger for McDavid.

Nurse has a NMC so we're stuck with that contract. Campbell will be bought out for $3m more cap space. We'll probably re-sign Pickard and roll with Skinner+Pickard.

I'm confident we can get the roster sorted and make another push in 24/25.

  9. Out : campbell, kane and (wishful thinking) nurse and maybe some picks…in: (if the price and trade is right) these are players on other teams…Arvidson ….zadorov …and maybe a matt dumba….resign : broberg…bouchard….holloway……
And fill the rest maybe thru f.a….something i thought of …nothing to argue about….Go Oilers

  10. Nobody will ever touch Wayne's 2800 points. However, McDavid may be the second man to hit 2000.

  11. Oilers depth is fine. They just need to use it. Whenever a game is close they play the hell out of the top line and bench the other three lines. The “other” lines played well in the final and got great results but were not utilized enough in close games. You can’t exhaust you top line and then wonder why they are dragging their ass at the end of the game.

  12. This was McNuggets chance. He will just be Another Patrick Marleau in the end. You NEED to win a cup. Ovechkin said that in 2016. I have to win the stanley cup. He did.

  13. It would take a miracle (trading Campbell and/or Nurse) for the Oilers to bring back a team as good as the one they had last season, with that many players to sign with that little salary cap space, and with a lot less time before free agency to get it done because they went to game 7. If they can't move out Campbell or Nurse or both, they're probably taking a step back next season, and focus on signing Draisaitl to make it even harder to have depth after that. Playing Broberg in the playoffs means they might not have enough cash to resign him and are forced to trade him. It doesn't make much sense to bury Campbell in the minors if the not much savings is washed away by now having to pay another backup goalie, but it might take more than just a 1st round draft pick to move that albatross of a contract.

  14. No way the oilers replicate this next year. The cap space situation is bad and they had the most favorable path to the cup. Getting to play the stars who had already beat the two best cup contenders was a gift and probably won't happen again. Plus having to resign draisaitl and bouchard won't be possible. They are cooked

  15. Bettman 31 Canada ZERO. He has been preventing Canada from winning since 94. NOT a "conspiracy" . No one can convince me that in 31 years no Canadian team was "good enough to win" and more suspiciously no 2 Canadian teams were good enough to meet in the finals. The first thing he did was prevent Vancouver from winning in 94 (after he moved the NHL head office from Toronto to New York). He has been doing it ever since – allowing a team to periodically go to the finals and even game 7 but always prevents the Canadian team from winning. He does this with the "help" of the referees who are told to call extra penalties against Canada and less against the other team. In game 7 of this year within 3 minutes of the start a bogus call against the Oilers which gave Florida a goal. If the Oilers would have scored more there would have been more penalties called against them and fewer against Florida. People saying the Oilers were not "aggressive enough" are wrong because if they were the refs would have called even more penalties against them. A no win situation. He is all about helping the American teams thrive and will do everything to ensure the cup stays in America. He is salivating at the eventual move of McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews and others to US teams because they will know they can never win a cup playing for a Canadian team. Now that he has promised the owner in Phoenix that they will have another team it should work out that at least one of those players I mentioned will end up signing there which would instantly help that Phoenix team. So corrupt. He hates the Canadian teams but loves their money and stretching out the series to game 7 brought him millions more. It is especially sad that the two most expensive season tickets are in Edmonton and Toronto but neither of which will ever win again. Edmonton is lucky that he took over in 94 instead of 84 because if he did the Oilers would never have won even 1 cup. "Captain America" – Gary Bettman.

  16. I’d try to trade Kane, for a different look. I think they get back to the finals but it’s going to be in a few years. They’re not going back next year unfortunately

  17. Jack Campbell buyout: 5X3 -> 1.1/2.3/2.6/1.5X3. It sucks to pay someone 2.6M to not play for you but right now they're paying 5M to not play for them…. The argument against is goaltenders are wildly varying in play from season to season and he might find his game again. Key word: might.

  18. I hate Nurse with a passion soley because of how over paid he is. He is worth a third of what he is getting. To put it in perspective, Nurse is the #8 highest paid D man in the entire league.

  19. everyone forgets this is mcdavids team not nurses team, if he asks him to leave and move his no trade clause, he will be moved. the gm can also pull a mark stone and put him on LTIR and have his contracted buried till playoffs. ceci needs to be traded and campbell needs to be bought out or traded for some young AHL prospect goalies that schwartz can ruin. we definitely need janmark and brown back now! mclovin should stay too along with broberg who stepped up bit time! hes better than nurse and ceci imo now! we need a number 1 goalie. we can try to bank on skinner again but i dont think hes ready yet for this many games without breaking every once in awhile on the first few shots
