Wonder if they use the additional second rounder as a potential package to move up from 18 if they need to grab a guy they didn’t expect to fall like Moore last year.

Not sure we need another middle six speedster with stone hands – Mikheyev… Love laff though! I guess the 2nd is nice and could be used for future trades.

Oh man, Bedard’s gonna set up so many goals for Mikheyev to somehow miss. It’s gonna be *awesome!*

EDIT: If this is the only significant move made (which I doubt) it would be disappointing. But I think it does help the bottom 6 depth a little bit. Again, this is very likely not the only move that will be made.

Canucks don’t even have a 2nd round pick this year.

A future 2 for eating almost two years and $5m AAV for a below-average player is…not great. Especially when it’s a team that will be picking closer to round 3 than round 1.

Really makes little sense to take on that much bad money for so little.

It’ll be next years second rounder since they only have their 3rd 4th 2 6s and a 7 but i think he could be a good player here in Chicago. Only time will tell though.

Credit to @DontBeSaad20 for breaking this. Also Chicago is on Mikheyev’s 12 team NTC, so he will have to waive. Edit: wow we’re sending back a 4th? Don’t like this deal too much right now.

As someone who’s in Vancouver and who watches a lot of Canucks games do to my line of work, I’m not happy about Mikheyev potentially coming to Chicago. Injury prone, hasn’t been the same since the injury he sustained and has a hard time finishing. Will not go to the dirty areas of the ice to fight for pucks. Also, overpaid👏

  10. I like it on the condition that these are the worst forwards we sign this offseason. Lafferty is the perfect « play your role » depth guy for the 4th line and Mikheyev is a big body, which we need more of, that can play up and down the lineup.
Honestly Vancouver paid us to dump Dickinson’s contract and that worked out well, so I’m hopeful for this one too.

With all due respect, I’m baffled at all the comments here being confused about this move or not liking it. We took on cap for years that we’re going to be nowhere close to the cap anyways, and got a free 2nd and free decent middle six players, there’s quite literally nothing bad about this move for us, it’s just a free W. I think the hawks’ situation is quite clearly laid out so respectfully I’m not sure why it’s confusing people.

You never know, maybe Mikheyev will rebound and be a decent player like Dickinson

Let’s not forget that Mikheyev last year was coming off ACL surgery. Could be a diamond in the rough if he returns to his form before the injury

There’s some really serious misunderstanding of hockey and Chicago’s current place in the league going on in these comments. Truly baffling response to an easy W from Davidson

Cool to see KD has 0 interest in building a competitive team in the next two years. Let’s just waste Bedard’s entire ELC.

Big brain moves, now go draft a D man with the number #2 overall pick that isn’t even a consensus to be a true number 1 d man in the league. Lets complete this brilliant off season.

Bring on the downvotes lol. Bringing in a guy who was healthy scratched in the Playoffs to further build the loser mentality on this team is totally worth a late 2nd round pick next year.

I feel like people on here are making him out to be worse than he is. He’s fine. He’s a bounce back candidate a year removed from surgery. Remember how McCabe sucked the year after knee surgery? He’s doing just fine now.

  17. 5MinuteDad

Once again people are upset with a move that really doesn’t matter at all. Money means nothing for another 2-3 years….
