For Leaf Followers and Bruins Fans Playoff hopes – if Mitch gets an extension ($13 Million per year) that is definitely the best option. The good thing for Leafs Fans is that Marner is a regular season success. So likely the Leafs continue to make the playoffs.
Making the playoffs and losing in the First Round (7 out of every 8 years with zero playoff runs) is kinda fun and interesting for all fans to watch. 😀 So if Mitch gets extended – isn’t that what we should all continue to expect. At least, Mitch enjoys being treated like a God in Toronto.
honestly as a leafs fan, i hate the Panthers and im more than happy to chear for the Oilers to see guys like McDavid, Drai and Hyman win the cup.

Toronto needs to do a quick rebuild. You fill the holes with prospects to see what you have in the system. How many guys have we gave up on. Hyman, Verhaeghe, Moore, Marchment , Bunting etc. For nothing. Cap problems go away next year. Only sign guys who will be here for a couple of years. If Marner does not want to sign an extension and we will get nothing in return, could both sides not agree to cancel his contract and he goes UFA July 1. This would give both sides what they want and we can move forward. Marner would be better off to stay on a discount to get 8 years. Lets say 8.9 m. Add in bonuses for team success. 2nd, 3rd and cup round win bonuses. He would be a hero not a guy who just wants money. JT signs a very cheap extension. Now Tre knows how much cap room he has to fill the holes and build a team.
I disagree about Marner. Tell me that GMs won't line up to take a 95pt player that they only have to pay $750. The cap hit would be an issue for many teams but that's also a PLUS for some teams.
Marner`s will start the season 2024 with the Leafs

The Leafs should sign Corey Perry. He would be a good fit for Mich Marner's mom.
Nothing will change with the current pay structure. They all should be paid 700k/season, and they get bonus money if they go rounds. That way there is an incentive. Otherwise you will have the same group of under performing snowflakes.

Marner being traded after july 1st makes a lot of sense. Sign and trade. His salary bonus is paid by the leafs… At this point the Leafs would get a massive haul for marner. if it's a sign and trade with a team like Utah.. You're getting 6th overall + Crouse + Durzi… Or perhaps even something like 6th overall + Logan Cooley… that's the type of return you need for someone as good as Marner.

They will trade Marner which I totally agree with and keep the real problem which is Matthews being a playoff bust – then what's the excuse going to be? Trade them both and get some heart. McDavid is showing everything that Matthews will never be.
