Sens fan here, this trade was fair. No real winners. Staios is trying to fix the mess Dorion made with that awful Korpisalo signing. OTT get rids of a bad contract (25% retain) for probably a rental and you get your pick back. That's how i see it. Kastelic is an AHL in my opinion, not a very good player, too soft.
As a Bruins fan I think we all knew that the Ullmark-Swayman tandem wouldn’t last, and that one of them would have to go. Personally I’m glad it was Ullmark because Swayman is much better in the playoffs than Ullmark is. That being said, this is not the kind of return I would have hoped for. You took a one year contract for Linus Ullmark and exchanged it for a contract with more years left for a subpar goaltender in Joonas Korpisalo, you get a so-so centerman in Mark Kastelic, and the only part of this trade package I like is the draft pick. Hopefully we will draft a talented centerman who excels at shooting the puck. Maybe Kastelic will develop, because he’s only 25 and is entering a much better market, but I’d rather we call up Brandon Bussi from Providence than keep Korpisalo in backup for Swayman.
Good to get the first pick back, but it was a terrible trade.
If you think about it. Ottawa traded that 25th overall pick to get rid of Korpisalo's contract , So in reality Ullmark was traded for Kastelic.
Sweeney has never been good at trades. This is the icing on the cake of bad trades.
"goaltenders don't usually get a great return" Well Ottawa just a got a great return on theirs.
Brady for Ullmark and DeBrusk sounds fair. Boston got wrecked in this trade.
