1. What are you on? Pesce is exactly heavier, edgier and more violent than any of the Devils D. He is exactly what the Devils need. He blocks, hits, better around the crease, cuts off opposition teams passing lines. Everything that non on our D does. Would be the first move by Fitzgerald I'd be 100% happy with. But first the Devils need to move Marino.

  2. Not worried. Necas talk is bs, and there is no way the 10A is in play for someone CAR clearly doesn’t want to extend next year for the $7M+ a desperate team will give him. Seravalli is a goober and is more concerned with blasting nonsense out first than he is getting it right.

  3. Adding more grit and size is something Fitz said he wanted to upgrade yeah but it's not like he said that was it. Pesce is "consistent" which is something we don't have on D at the moment, and IMO more important than grit through a long season. I don't care if a guy can hit if he's leaving guys wide open in the crease or out of position.

  4. I don't think Fitz is on the hot seat. Nowhere close.
If they miss the playoffs again, then maybe. But I get the feeling ownership loves him, despite this past season.

I still have confidence in him. Or at least, faith. What he does with free agents should be the most telling imo.

I know there are free agent defensemen but I worry other teams will snag the best ones. As in Zadorov. To me that's the current priority.
I agree, Pesce would be ok, but not first on the list by any means. And a little pricey(?)
I like your idea of getting a 2025 pick and a top 9 forward.
Also not a big fan of Necas. I didn't realize he's only 25. But a major no-show in the playoffs.
Is it possible the rumors are coming from Pesce and Necas's agents or the Canes? Or just the media? I kinda hope so.

  5. Dillan and Hakaanpa might be the path Fitz takes to help fix our D with size and physicality. Should be much more affordable than other options. We should trade Marino and/or Seigs.

  6. Just cuz we talking dont make it so.. im mean look at the rumors for the goalie, what happened??? Holtz,Mercer,10thOa,Casey??? What happened, Bahl, and next yrs 1… dont, dont, dont believe the hype!!!! Neca is 3rd line center 🖕 rather draft that wit our pick than trade our pick for it…

  7. I think you are being a bit hard on Fitz. It's easy to forget because it was the entire season but losing Dougie, a top 5 D man in the world, had a HUGE impact. Add in the fact that Luke and Simon both, looked like rookies, and marina and siegenthaler took a 50% regression, that makes it real hard to win. This high flying offense needs quality defensive men that can quarter back play and take advantage of the speed and create space.

Lastly, I mean, I didn't think they were the saviors but I never expected the goalies to be THAT bad. Vancek looked like a hugh school club player at times.

I think the goal market was extremely tough at the end of last season and it takes the other party to agree not just fitz looking.

  8. Isn't Necas a top six winger with speed to keep up with Jack and Bratt? Doesn't help with the physicality need and would be costly, so that argues against getting him.

  9. Pesce might not be overly physical, however he is as positionally sound as they come, and one of the better shot blockers in the league. At 6'3, he is hard to get around with his mobility. Fitz can also find several top 9 gritty forwards to give us more tenacity. Pesce, with players like Sissons, Sherwood, and/or Ross Colton would be killer.

  10. I would take Pesce if we get a 2nd round pick back. I understand the "win now" sentiment but I don't think this team is really ready yet to win now. They aren't mature enough to win now. This might be a take that many disagree with.

Markstrom is certainly a 2 year stop gap. In my mind, he's more of a good placeholder until we have a really great goalie to take us forward. We do need a tougher team. However, this team is also very mentally weak. My hope is that the new coach can teach them to be stronger mentally as well as force them to get stronger physically. While I love what Jack can do, I think he is a very divisive piece on this team. He is insanely talented but he has never struck me as a team first player. I hope that I'm wrong on this front.

Another thing that needs to change with this team is the culture. They need to "hate to lose" more than they "want to win". This may be a maturity issue that will change in the future. Of course, I may be looking at this team through the prism of the older cup winning teams. Yes, the game has changed. However, after watching this year's cup series, that attitude still holds true in the playoffs.

I would really love to know what you think.

  11. Necas is an anagram for Canes- do what you will with that info..

I don’t want any pieces from a team that I look at as a 2nd round top out team. Definitely not these 2 players, respectfully

Trade the pick Fitz !!!!!! ⏱️

  12. You and agree on so much it’s scary haha. I don’t want Necas. I heard he is asking 8-9 mill per year on his next contract, we can’t afford that. I would trade the 10th pick for a 1st next year and a NHL ready player. The only player I would consider drafting is Dickinson who is a nice size defensemen that is said to be NHL ready.

  13. Tanev/Zadarov. See if we can offload Palat. I loved it when we signed him but his contract and production dropped pretty hard. Utilize Holtz properly. Probably gonna lose Seigs or Marino if we sign either of the 2 dman I mentioned. Marino has a modified NTC. Prefer that Smith gets sent off. Pesce wouldn't be horrible but Necas is a mistake for his asking price. Tatar as a UFA for bottom six. Reinhart is a dream signing but I'd give a 10th for him plus a pick

  14. I agree with you but honestly I’d trade the 10th for Necas. He’s an unbelievable player. Most likely than anyone we could get at pick 10. Not only does it make us better, but it makes the canes worse.

  15. Sometimes these “insiders” like Friedman and Servalli throw a dozen things at the wall and hopes one or two stick. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Buffalo is rumoured to be the front runner for Necas and will probably offer a better package than what Fitz would put on the table. Pesce would be an upgrade for a spot but we still need a Tanev / Zadorov in the mix. If our D core was Dougie, Luke, Nemec, Pesce, Zadorov / Tanev, and one of the other pieces currently in the organization we would be much better off than last season. Completely agree tho that NJ does not need to spend that number 10 on a D when the free agency market has a lot to chose from. Spend it on a top six forward upgrade if there is a worthwhile trade there to be made.

  16. Ace what’s your take on Rutger McGoarty? I would love to us make a move for him with his cheap contract and potential. Maybe he could be a bottom 6 top 9 guy for us this year. He is a bigger body teammates with Luke at one point and also give us the flexibility to get us 2 stud defenders and another forward with grit.
Not big on Necas, he’s just too much of what we already have and doesn’t have exactly what you said in grit or physical game not to mention us locking him up long term would take up a bunch of cap. Rather get a short term Bertuzzi that would fit that role and complement our goal scorers and bring some toughness.
Pesce id be fine with as long as we complement our other defenders with some size and grit. Zadorov would be a dream but a bit concerning there has been zero links with him and the devils so far.
Would love to see Fitz to pull off a move like Lou did in 03 for Friesen and Tverdovsky.
