Kane moved the needle last season but I’m not entirely convinced he is a catalyst going forward.

Normally you’ll see me not loving the idea of vets in FA, but we need someone who can produce offense and Kane is a great player for guys like Raymond to learn from. Zero qualms about bringing him back even if we don’t compete really during this deal.

Double his salary is $5.5m. What’s the hold up here? Give him the 3rd year.

I’m not confident Guentzel, Stamkos, or Marchessault even make it to market. Let’s not get stuck holding the bag here.

I’d like him back for sure. I don’t know about the 3rd year either, but it really seems like his game has more to do with his hockey IQ than anything else. I have varying opinions on the potential top-six UFAs Yzerman might chase, but the Wings need to add scoring either way. Unless he comes away empty-handed or seriously overpays on AAV and term, I don’t think I’ll be too salty about the situation.

Why does Kane think we’re going in the right direction when every armchair GM in this sub thinks Steve needs to be fired and we’re totally dead in the water? Is he stupid?

Im honestly ok with an overpay on his contract. He was great, did things nobody else could do. I want to keep watching him on the Red Wings.

I really hope we find the money to re-sign him. 3 years of him mentoring our prospects would be invaluable

$5.5 AAV for a point-per-game guy is an absolute slam dunk. Fuck, give him up to $7m if you have to.

5.5 for 3 years sounds good, but how much would Raymond and Seider get? It’s a decisive year for Wing’s long term contracts and we still need AT LEAST another good D. Don’t get me wrong, almost 32m is a very good number in cap space, but given how much Hronek got from the canucks, you can imagine how much other teams would offer Seider and for how long. Remember 13/23 spots and it will be more expensive just to get those 3 back on ice.

Sprong and Veleno need to come back too.

$5.5 X 3 has to get it done, maybe $6.5 X 2. I have been a broken record on this, but we need to get this done. Stevie, just give him the term. We do not need to sign a Guentzel to a seven-year deal so he can be 33 when we are in a true cup window. We know what Kane can do, he’s a great short term player to elevate the roster and keep longterm cap flexibility. There is no one else we can get for ~$6M that is a near PPG player. Not to mention the impact he could have on young players like he did with Raymond.

Our young D prospects better be ready to step up when they get the chance. If we have a Kane and Stamkos situation on hour hands, our +/- will be taking a big hit.

Tbf they even said last year that Vegas and NY were more likely to get him than we were.

That’s it Kane is a red wing again and it’ll be like 4M a year.
