With raised team caps on the horizon, I fear GMs could go nuts in free agency. That 10 mil for Guenzel might not be far off.

Capitals have decided to cling on to mediocrity I see. Another one of those teams that push the rebuild back for too long.
Guentzel will get way overpaid because the so-called "most in demand" free agent every year gets way overpaid.
"Cup winners are usually made up of really good players" but no stars. GMs take note of this.
If any GM signs Guentzel to 10mil, they deserved to be fired. He probably ends up in Utah
Guinzal however you spell it is a only worth maybe 8.5 to 9 mil per in my opinion.

That's why I can't get invested into the NHL so much – not even 2 or 3 years gone and all of your favourite players from a team are already scattered all around the continent. There's so much movement going on you've got no chance to grow attached to a team the same way as in, say football (vel 'soccer'). At least if you don't have a club in your area 🙂

Guentzel is a really good player can score you some goals but if I were a GM I wouldn't give more than 7mil/yr

Guentzel is good but hes realistically a 70-80point guy, If you pay more than 9million its not worth it.

Something that I feel like is getting missed with the Guentzel talks is that Carolina can give him 8 years whereas everywhere else can only do 7 years. We have to remember that even if the Canes only pay him something like 7.75 million per year for 8 years, that would be the equivalent of him making 8.8 million per year on a 7 year deal somewhere else. So Carolina might seem like they are lowballing if they offer him under 8 million, but if they are offering him the full 8 year term it kind of evens out. Hopefully they can get him locked up.
As a Hurricanes fan, I'm worried what the Guentzel deal will mean for us retaining other players and what it would mean for us long term, because he's not going to be worth it the full 8 years like some alternatives (Necas) for that deal would. And Guentzel alone doesn't replace the players we'd lose to make that work
