Russo also mentions Patrik Laine as a player who makes sense for the seond line role, but Columbus would have to eat half of his deal.

Personally, I’ve read enough about Laine that scares me off from him. He does not sound like a Guerin guy. But hey…I’d love to be wrong.

no way Jets would outright trade 13th… especially for a division rival. Would need to add a second, and honestly another prospect

That #13 might be the best offer they get. Unless SJ offers the newly aquired 11th pick.

If Winnipeg sends McG to us, that’s on them. He’d have an open spot waiting eventually, regardless of how many NMCs the team has. I don’t see the benefit of trading down though. There’s going to be someone of value waiting. Even if it’s the same type of player the Wild have a lot of (Helenius), you can’t go wrong with more of them, if his immediate comparable is Rossi. If Sennecke, Eiserman, Catton or Yakemchuk is there (all likely enough), they would be fools to move.

    Laine is interesting.

This may be completely wild and unpopular idea, but what if we trade for Johnny Gaudreau?

Here me out. His contract is a total albatross, and I feel like he’s a candidate to be bought out by the end of next season. A buyout would cost them 2/3 of his contract spread out over the 10 years.

WHAT IF instead of a buyout they trade him and retain 50% of the salary? Cheaper for them. That would be $4.8m cap hit for the next 5 years. It would fit under our salary cap for next year, and open up some interesting possibilities for the year after. The question would be what kind of package would that take from the Wild to pull that off.

I wonder if the idea of moving back overlaps the interest in McGroarty. I can’t imagine the Jets have a bunch of teams lining up to offer a top 15 pick. Why not move back to say 18, pick up 34 and then move 18 + our 4th to the Jets. Keeps 2 picks in the top 50 and adds a piece now.

Found this on the main reddit. CBJ wanted 12, 32, and next year’s first from PHI for #4. I’m gonna say nope, and I can see why Philly did. Not with the level of players all kinda lumped in the same tier.

I kinda like the idea of going for McGroarty. I’ll have to look up his stats and highlights tho

The only way I’m trading 13 is to get a player that helps us right now, meaning moving way up (like top 5) or trading directly for a player/prospect that can slot in. Trading back into the 20s does nothing for me. Might as well just trade out of the 1st round at that point.
