Remember in 2016 when TSN 1050 used to take 15 seconds out of their ad break multiples times every day to run a countdown of how many days it was until Stamkos hit free agency? What a time to be alive. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years. I also can’t believe we’re doing this shit with the Stamkos watch again, albeit a little toned down this time.

Who cares. It’s honestly more of a pipe dream to get Stamkos than it is McDavid. At least McDavid actually wants to play here. Stamkos tested free agency last time and as soon as he heard the Leafs’ pitch he was like nah fuck that and immediately re-signed. Guy wants to play here as much as ROR does. In any possible reality where he plays here we are massively overpaying him and I’m pretty sure our consensus has been to stop overpaying more than two forwards at a time.
