As much as I love the guy, this is the right decision. Can’t overpay for personality
hrryyss
I’m fine with this. He’s asking too much. I knew he was going to be overpaid, just glad it’s not by us.
Saisinko
One of the few to step it up in the playoffs, just not enough of a sample size to commit.
awayfromcanuck
It’s the right call. Zad’s asking for too much and the management has shown with the last several signings, you want to be here? You need to be willing to take a pay cut.
NinCross
At least Joshua didn’t want to get the bag. Would hate to lose both.
SuddenCourse
Go out and grab a top 4 RHD, like Marino or Tanev. Better allocation of funds anyways, as much as I would have LOVED to have big Z back.

Thank you for your service 🫡

I trust management but wow the whiplash from the high of yesterday to today learning no Zadorov, no Guentzel
BrocksOut
Thank Lord Jim! Love the player but that contract was going to age like milk. Even what was rumoured we offered was going to be bad just into next season. He wanted term which was fine but he played himself off the team during that playoff run
CrayonOlympics
Means he wanted more than they were willing to give him. Very sad because he’s such a fantastic character but ultimately I’m glad the front office is making decisions with their heads not their hearts.

Hughes – Hronek
Soucy – ________
_______ – Myers
Juulsen, Friedman
That’s our defence as of today. Wonder how the remaining is filled. I’m guessing the third pair LD will just be a bargain bet (is Brisebois healthy?). Tanev with Soucy would really make a formidable top 4. Or even Marino if he can be had pretty cheap.
ScarvesOnGiraffes
If this is 100% true, I trust management’s judgement. Highly likely the contract handed out will age like milk. This sucks though cause I really liked what he added but I also trust management to find a more cost effective replacement

Fuck it, Pesce, Stamkos, Dillon. Who says no

This fucking sucks. Big Z was starting to become one of my favorite players. Loved the big hits and and the toughness he brought to our back end. I really wanted us to bring him back.

Honestly, love the show of restraint from management. We can’t re-sign players to bad contracts just because they’re well liked.

This announcement after that redditor posted a picture of them in Vegas.
What happened in Vegas, clearly didn’t stay in Vegas.

I’ll miss him. Wonder if he will roast us like he did to LA, Calgary, and Edmonton after he leaves. 😂

Mad respect for how ruthless Allvin is.
It was a fun run. But this dude is definitely going to get overpaid.

Zadorov was the odd one out.
Alvin knows the exact same lineup from last year might win the Stanley cup, but Lindholm wasn’t going to stay because we can’t give him both term and AAV, which is fair on lindholm’s part – so we needed an upgrade on forward elsewhere to make up for this loss.
Spending big on offence leaves little to work with on defense, and everyone who’s been brought back admits to taking a cut of sorts to keep this dream a reality.
Zadorov wants money. Nothing wrong with that. But he isn’t our #1 RHD, and overpaying for a #2 isn’t going to make sense if we already have Myers at 3.
Losing zadorov is going to suck, big time. But not upgrading our offense and getting a winger for Petey for next year is going to be much worse. Alvin made the right call here. Someone is going to overpay him, and it’ll be more viable for another team’s cap situation and defensive situation, just not ours.

I’m disappointed but not overwhelmingly sad.
Tell that to Canucks Instagram though. They’ve really throwing a fit over the Mikeyhv dump to Chicago.

My wife’s take… Well, I guess I am about to find my second favourite team.

Alvin is playing 3d chess game again like he did with petey

Damn, this sucks! We can’t blame Zadorov though, he made a big splash here in the post-season and the timing means he has a rare chance to secure a bigger bag and get overpaid.
There’s no doubt his size, toughness, and most of all, his personality, will be missed here. But I think if we signed him for what he wants we’d probably come to regret it, and that money could be better spent elsewhere.
No matter, I’ll miss the guy and wish him the best. He was a lot of fun this season!

it’s a good thing i’m not in charge of anything. you made me laugh? 8 mil. you bullied nurse? 8 mil. you passive aggressively insult edmonton as a city? 10 mil. jokingly wear silovs’ shirt to practice? just take our entire cap.
my personality type belongs in absolutely zero management positions.

Z wants his payday. The irony is this season could be the pinnacle of his play working within a very structured system and being coached by Foote and Gonchar. It took until the playoffs for him to really adopt it and shine. Toronto or most other potential landing spots will be a lot less structured and it’s highly likely that he will end up back to his more undisciplined ways re his rep that followed him to the Flames (too high risk and too many penalties). Wishing him the best as he finds the big buck$$$
jaavuori24
this really sucks, but to be honest as an outspoken Russian that man needs to save every dollar he can. May he torment the Evander canes of the world wherever he goes
TurbanGhetto
I know many will whine about this and while I absolutely love Z, if he wants 5 mill and term, we’d have to be fucking stupid to not sign Dillon *if* we can get him at roughly a million less
It’s crazy to me how many people whined about the bad signings of the previous management group but then out of the other side of their mouth are willing to make exceptions here and there.
What is the January to April 2024 version of Zadorov worth?
What is the previous 5 years of Zadorov worth?
He was still the odd man out on rare occasion just to get into the lineup!
‘*Yeah, but did you see how good he played over that 2-3 week period, dammit*!’
