Whether you think the trade is an overpay or not, this move at least fills a massive need that we had in the bottom of our lineup.

  2. 3rdEyeJoker

It’s what we need for bottom 6, even if it’s a bit of overpay

Absolute shit value. Hopefully his underlying defensive numbers are worse than his ability because Washington had the pick for about a maximum of 5 minutes every game last year, but man what an overpay

Greenway – Krebs – Malenstyn 4th line, costs 2 seconds and a quarter of Eichel lol

  4. jigglesboi

The caps subreddit seems more bummed about losing him than they are excited about getting a 2nd.

  5. Cool_Raspberry443

That’ll get them in the playoffs

These feel like the exact stats that would be used in 2018 to explain why Rasmus Ristolainen is actually good

    “It fills a need”
A need that can be filled in FA or a fourth round pick.

It’s an overpay, but we need the kind of skill set that Malenstyn brings. She is going to have a lot of defensive starts and provide a more physical edge.

It’s an overpay, but we need to fill the bottom 6 role and the reality is that not many people want to come to Buffalo.

The good news is, this guy hits anything that moves and the majority of his hits are clean (by that I mean no penalty assessed). 241 hits and only 25 penalty minutes. Those numbers are honestly insane. That’s not even mentioning how he’s good on the PK and blocks a ton of shots.

Again, it’s an overpay, but it fills a role we need and that’s what matters right now. Eyes on the prize, we are going to need people that hit for the playoffs.

Edit: 241 hits in 81 games. That’s almost 3-hits per game on average.

If you have a lot of hits and blocked shots, it means you don’t have the puck. If you don’t have the puck, it means you’re playing defense a lot, which helps explain why his defensive impacts are so poor even once you account for his (extremely) tilted defensive usage. I don’t have a problem overpaying for a 4th liner to help right now, however the player has to actually be good defensively.

  11. FesteringLion

I’m surprised he cost a 2nd, but it’s not like we need a ton more prospects at the moment. So we over-payed for 4th liner who PK’s, blocks shots and hits. You all said we couldn’t bring Girgensons back again, well here you go.

  12. Traded 11oa for a top pick and an NHL grinder. I don’t know what else people want, but maybe people just like being mad.

I don’t care about picks and prospects one bit. I’ve spent nearly 20 years hearing about how good the pipeline is and none of it, not one pick of it, has mattered. Go get some players.

another clear case of Kevyn not consulting reddit prior to trading. big blunder from the GM, gotta wonder how much longer he’ll have that seat. we would have immediately told him that a 2nd is too much and to force the Caps to make the trade for a 4th instead

  14. creding10

Really good at things you can only do when you don’t have the puck, great

  15. It’s an overpay in isolation, but when you think about it as 11th for 14th + Malenstyn, it’s a great pick up.

  16. DevelopmentExpress30

You can find a 4th line winger in free agency for league minimum… you trade a high 2nd for this? Kevyn Adams is a bum. Lost cause. Send this man into the sun.
