  1. Honestly, if the Leafs give Tanev a 7 year deal at 3 mil per, then front load the contract with signing bonuses, it could be very good. He'll either retire after 3 or 4 years already receiving 95% of his money or be on LTIR.

  2. I like Tanev, as he's a heart player, but no, I wouldn't want him on my team at this point. Will be 35 years old shortly after the season starts, and everyone knows that each year you age after 33, is like aging 5 in your mid 20s.

I wish him well there, but, I just don't see this ending well, as Toronto is going to expect too much from the guy. They have a habit of signing geriatric players at the ends of their careers.

  3. Looks like Chris Tanev is going to the Leafs.I knew he wouldn't stay in Dallas.Logan Thompson traded to Washington from Vegas.

  4. It would be a safe bet for a 34 year old battle scared Tanev to sign a long term deal with a team like the Leafs or the Habs as they don't seem to mind wasting money on players on LTIR for half the entire contract length.

From the players perspective, get paid millions to golf and fish sounds pretty sweet.

  5. Signing vets and old players long term isn't really a problem anymore with the normalisation of that way of using LTIR.

Teams with deep pockets like Toronto, Montreal or NYR could/will abuse the shit out of it until they can’t. If you are contending within a certain window might as well sign those risky long term contracts to reduce AAV now.

Who wouldn’t sign Crosby in 25-26 at 38, for lets say 3-4 mil AAV 5 years, if he even gives 1 good year of hockey it’s worth it, if he gets injured LTIR, if he gets bored of hockey he retires … with inflation and the current market he might even get a lot better AAV, but at this point i believe he would take a lower AAV to get cups.

  6. Love Tanev, but for term: 2 years is safe, 4 is a stretch, but 5+ is hoping LTIR finishes his career at some point and you can use the extra years to reduce the immediate cap hit

  7. Idk if i’d call this “interesting” i feel like this was inevitable. Tanevs the name i’ve heard connected to the leafs most year after year. They hardly got rid of anything and just want to sign him before he gets offered big money. He’ll get long term and the last couple years will on ltir or waived

  8. The fact we still dont have solid goaltending still doesn’t improve our chances.. that, some scoring depth, and another defensive piece then I’d say maybe, MAYBE we’re ready

  9. I want Mitch marner gone I genuinely would be suprised if I check his stats and saw a singular hit he’s not physical he gives up pucks because he’s not physical and he is laziness’s just lost another game 7 in overtime 2 months ago and I know they would have lost anyways but marner is genuinely dead weight in the playoffs

  10. The leafs love to waste money and spend foolishly. What a stupid trade. Tanev is old and injury prone. Smh. Wow. 😅

  11. I wouldn't look at a 5-year term as an expectation that he plays another 5 years. It's just a way to make the AAV lower. The window in Toronto is now, so term doesn't matter. Maybe he spends the final 2 years on LTIR. I just hope the Leafs make the best of their cap space. No more freeloaders. We have the offensive weapons. We need D and goaltending.

  12. Tampa ypu knew would dump salary, to try and find cap space for Stamkos. But Brisebois may have burned his bridge there. Seeing as alot of good forwards are ufa's cone Monday, teams that lose pending ufa's, will be looking at Stamkos, so he can get what he wants.

  13. Love everything Treliving is doing. Expect yet another D and G coming in. What will be disappointing is if Tre can't get a Marner trade done. Running things back to infinity or letting him walk for nothing shouldn't be an option.

  14. I hope the cap hit is reasonable with Tanev. Who cares about length as it's the Leafs. They've mastered the LTIR.

  15. Tyres that have a lot of tread left on them is the exact opposite of what you meant about a 34 year old that is injury prone.
