The dream is over. Hopefully the Canucks sign 2 good middle 6 wingers

  2. Canuckx11

Well at least we don’t have to stress about it for an hour tomorrow just for him to sign with Tampa. I feel like we are gonna go for someone unexpected like domi or something

  3. JakeCanuck

I would like one order of Stamkos please

  4. nodarknesswillendure

Jake please… we have sun… only sometimes but I promise we have it

Might be a hot take but the fact that Tampa gave up a third JUST to have under 24 hours of negotiation time with Guentzel actually isn’t as bad as it looks.

We all know there’s plenty of tampering behind the scenes. If there was always an understanding that Guentzel wanted to go to Tampa, why would they give up the asset just to have 24 hours to try to officially sway him?

  6. Wouldn’t it be so funny if he still tests the waters in free agency

  7. MaximumSamage

Sad to see, but I was uneasy about the amount of money and term we were going to deck out anyway. Let’s move on.

  8. KingInTheFarNorth

The Leafs giving a seventh round pick for Tanev felt like just a roll of the dice.

Tampa giving up a third for Guentzel however, that feels like a done deal.

I know everyone was hungry for this one but I think we can make up his production in the aggregate with much cheaper contracts with way less term risk. I’d rather overpay a guy on a one or two year deal than pay top dollar on an 8 year term.

Eh, it’s not over till it’s over guys. Players have not always signed to teams they get their rights traded to.

I don’t thing TB is a sure thing…but I don’t think we should throw the barn at The Guentz either.

  12. decentish36

Is it that big of a deal? We can sign him tomorrow, why would he not wait to hear what we have to offer?

  13. Tracktoy

I for one am relieved. Signing him would make keeping 6 very difficult, and I am confident that Boeser will continue to produce near last seasons level.

I would prefer a trade or a shorter term, less high end guy to play with EP while we get Lekkermaki developed.

Time to get aggressive on Ehlers and Mcgroarty. There’s your second line with Petey for cheap cheap. Then pump some money into a depth forward and top 4 D.

  15. Nomad_0024

Could be a blessing for us. Now we can spread out that 9.5-10 mill we woulda had to pay him

  16. outofnowhere1010

Seems like the majority of players the Nucks were interested in are likely signing elsewhere. No it’s not a given but looks likely. Tanev , Guentzel, Zadorov, Lindholm , Marino trade . Stamkos will be way overpriced and he’s too slow 5 on 5 . Toffoli meh could be an ok addition.

I’m just curious Why wouldn’t we be doing this with lindholm?

TRADE FOR EHLERS NOW YOU COWARDS

  19. Hmm, wonder if they’ll go depth route now and make a swing at the deadline. Good opportunity to go for a 1 year overpay if nothing else shakes out

  20. Individual-Guide-274

Tsns notification on my phone said the Canes « Have acquired a third rock pick »

The all elusive third rock pick is now taken. I wonder what happened to the first two?

  21. Angry_beaver_1867

Is Tampa able to offer him 8 years after acquiring his rights ?

  22. coltonjeffs

Guentzel said himself he wants to test free agency so close to the finish Line. Tampa gonna have to throw out like 10+ to sign him

  23. Nice-Willingness-869

We’ve been down this road with Hamhuis.

  24. Jensen2075

If I’m Jake Guentzel and there’s less than 24 hours to FA, why would I sign when there’s going to be a bidding war and I can look at all the offers before deciding?

  25. BradenB22

I’m going to continue to be delusional and believe he’s coming to Vancouver until I see the contract signed

  26. RoughJustice81

My prediction is we will sign a forward that there’s been zero rumours about like Chandler Stephenson plus 1-2 more guys

  27. I want the Canucks to *not* go wild in free agency. Sign a couple of wingers, but nobody crazy. Keep some cap space so we can make a homerun swing on a mid-season trade.

I wanted Guentzel, but what I absolutely don’t want is « we didn’t get a chance to overpay for our perfect guy, so now we have to overpay *somebody*! » We need the right guy, the right fit, etc. Only bring in good fits, and swing for the fences when the time is right in the reg season.
