Great personality, but took about 7 steps back in his play this season.

I’ll miss you Schmidt. Fantastic guy who was a much better player than a lot of people gave him credit for

Was expecting a trade with salary retained. I’d expect he is able to sign somewhere a bit more rebuild-y. Seems like a great glue guy.

Not surprised here. D needs a different look, other than your top 2, Stanley’s game took a step back at times this season.

There are rules that prevent us from turning around and signing him to league min right? He’s obviously not great on the ice but by all reports he is a fantastic human and a great guy in the room.

🫡 Goodbye Schmidtty, you were great (for the locker room)

While I agree with the move, it’ll be sad to see the minister of vibes go.

Get him to replace Kevin Sawyer on color. I think he would be hysterical

Such a great character guy, shame Utah or someone desperate for NHL defenders with good attitudes couldn’t take on the contract. Curse you Vanshitty, another horrible contract of theirs hurts another franchise!

Sad to see him go. He was always entertaining & seemed like a great guy in the locker room. Wish him the best.

Why buy out Schmidt instead of Pionk? I really don’t understand it, Schmidt is at least good defensively, Pionk is just bad all round and he plays top minutes.

    Make it make sense.

What’s the cap hit on a buy out for him? Must not have had too much interest if they go the buyout route, teams must have wanted more retention than would be for a buy out.

I like him as a personality and a player but his contract sucks and it’s not to the level of the money they are dishing out when there’s young guys that could come in on elc and play just as well. Had that contract been half what it is he would probably have been moved or stayed

    Sad part of the business

Good indication the Jets will be hitting the UFA market for D and Centres.

Kind of a dangerous situation though. We have a lot of shitty depth options on D and yeah Schmidt fits in that category but in the higher end of the shitty options. Not sure Stanley takes a step forward, hopefully Heinola can play now but that’s a coin flip at best. It would be a bit of a shock for Salomonsson to not need some AHL time.

Sucks to see him go as he’s a great guy, but definitely best so we can get someone younger on D and have room to sign some forwards.
