  1. McDavid was battling an injury that required surgery and the Oilers need better goaltending. I'm sure they'll get their Cup.

  2. Just came to drop a thumbs down for the utter disrespect of not having Barkov on the thumbnail.

  3. I’m a goalie too so I understand that the stats sometimes are unfair for us, but if you can plug in the goalie from the losing team with almost identical stats who plays for a vastly inferior defensive team and still probably come up with the same result you have to give it to the guy who did things that have never been done in the entire history of the NHL

  4. this years Stanly Cup finals was the perfect example of why you don't give the player of the series to the LOSING TEAM! We can all agree that Conner is the most skilled player in this series and any other series he will likely play in for at least the next 5 years. However, if we shift the focus and look at what player or players effected the outcome of the series, if you're honest with yourself, its either Bobrovski, or the collective Florida forecheckers, end of story. I just am so irked how the player of a series can EVER be on the losing team. By definition, its just an oxymoron!

  5. It must have pained you to be around all those terrible white people, Stephen, waiting for a rant about DEI from you

  6. I thought Steven A said he was a stats guy…. Bobrovsky had a .899 save % in the series and was pulled due to poor play 1 game… skinner on the oilers had a .930 save %… the oilers goalie was even better than Bobrovsky… when the oilers won they dominated the panthers but when the panthers won it’s cause they squeaked out a win…. I mean none of the panther skaters even were in the conversation for the consmythe trophy…. The reason the panthers won is due to the refs not calling hooks or slashes or holds on the panthers when Connor mcdavid had the puck but in fairness like Crosby and bedard the refs don’t call penalties for the benefit of the best players or the oilers would play the game 5v4 for about 40 of 60 minutes

  7. As a long time hockey fan had Edmonton won game 7 then I would have agreed with the McDavid selection. But in G7 just like g's 1 – 3 McDavid was ineffective due to Barkov's relentless coverage and Bob in net, either of the should have one the Conn Smythe imo

  8. McDavid did deserve the Conn Smythe. He broke one of Gretzky’s records. Bob would have probably won it if the Panthers won it in 4 or 5.

  9. I prefer that they either award the Conn Smyth to a player on the winning team or award it after the playoffs at the awards ceremony. I think the later makes some sense as the winning team just wants to get their hands on the cup and the award of the MVP trophy delays that. Bob would have won if they swept the
Oilers. That big lopsided loss cost him the trophy.

  10. Bob had no business in the Conn Smythe discussion!!!!!! This is exactly why I am fine with McDavid winning it, because if he did not win it the idiots would have it gave it to a Goalie with a very mhhha 0.906 Sv% for the playoffs. The snub was 1st and foremost Barkov, but if Forsling got the Conn it would have been a aaaa ok, should have gone to Barkov, but Forsling was also huge for that Cup win.

  11. Cooper cupp winning super bowl MVP instead of Aaron Donald – was by far a greater disgrace – than connor mcdavid winning the conn smyth trophy

  12. Here is something to think about Stephen. Tampa, Vegas, Florida all recent cup winners. All these teams have the luxury of signing players with the benefit of no state tax on salaries. Therefore players will sign for less money. A very unfair advantage in a salary cap league.

  13. I'm a hockey guy. (Coach/player) I'm impressed with Steven A's analysis, and respect given to the game. Thank you.

  14. I remember the 90's cup for the Panthers, I thought the beeze (Vanbiesbrouk), Niedermayer, Straka, and Barnes (among others) had it. The Panthers didn't finish on top for the season but as I remember, were at another level during their cup run.

  15. Welcome to the hockey ecosphere Steven, longtime fan of yours, there is nothing in professional sports like the NHL Playoffs.

Former NYG season ticket holder for 35 years, former NYY ticket holder, longtime NYK and college hoops fan.

The stuff that NHL players endure during a season and playoff run blows away any other sport. The speed, the fury, the toughness, the resolve. These guys don't go on the DL for a hangnail.

  16. Him getting double and triple teamed all night and no one else on the team can step up 🤷 he's the clear MVP.
He took that team to within a few goals of winning the cup 🤯

  17. Hockey is really the best of the 4 big sports. I could argue this all day and show receipts. There is no other sport that the players have the deepest desire to lift their trophy. No sport is as gruelling to even get a sniff at that trophy. Players will play through more injuries than you would believe.

Mcdavid deserved that trophy and rightfully didnt come out to get the conn smythe. If you have any doubt of that, refer to the picture of JS Giguere coming out to get that trophy when anaheim lost to the devils. No matter how prestigious that trophy is, it is no consolation when losing lord Stanley. Look at his face and the sadness he is teying to subdue.

  18. Let's not forget about hockey romance books! Even though the Kraken had major PR issues because of hockey romance books, even when hockey romance books often gloss over the actual hockey, or get stuff wrong about hockey, there's no denying that hockey romance books helped the NHL stay afloat.
