Yikes! Underlying numbers are poor and he takes a ton of bad penalties. Overpay in terms of years – maybe 7.5 over 2 years but for 4… there’s a reason why he’s been on a string of one year deals.
Not to the same extent, but reminds me of Sportsnet praising Galchenyuk prior to his giveaway for the Suzuki/Caufield 2 on 0 to seal game 5 in 2021. There are good things about Domi’s game, but feels like a potential future buyout candidate. Good thing the cap goes up.
On the other hand Berube chains him down when he gets unhinged, and Toronto is exactly where he wants to be and he flourishes. Cap goes up so slight overpay = no big deal.
