  1. Malenstyn is a bottom six player, I doubt he'll ever be more than that, but he played his role well last season. Also, he played the entire season in Washington, not Hershey.

  2. @Thehockeyguy only can answer this question: When will San Jose Sharks win the Stanley Cup? When will Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley cup?

  3. As a Ranger fan, I am glad to see Tampa making some staggeringly questionable moves. A mid thirties McDonough over a prime aged Sergachev?! Then simply (looks likely) throwing Stamkos away has to hurt this team.

  4. I get moving out Marino, but that Schmid and Holtz trade seems a little one sided. I hope i eat my words but dang.

  5. If your going to a meetup, something huge will happen. It will always be your fault, in fact your wrong, about being wrong, while being wrong.

How dare you leave the house. Did i mention i blame you. Not sure for what yet, but its your fault.

  6. Little disappiointed since Holtz basically had no value around the league. Reports are San Jose didn't want him in the Meirer trade. Calagary didn't want him in the Markstrom trade.. ESPN trade review said Holtz was shopped around, even used the word throw in in the is deal. Think I finally gave up on hoping Holtz being the prospect we drafted after he failed to make the Swedish World team this past year, losing a spot to an AHL player.

  7. If the Lightning really are in fire sale mode in order to make room for Guentzel, then the writing's pretty much on the wall for Stammer. He's pretty much a Bolt in name only at this point.

  8. Pointless trivia, but assuming that the Capitals are going to roll with the Lindgren and Thompson for next season, this will be the first time in a while where a team's goaltending tandem are both full rights. The only other time I can recall this happening was when the Penguins had Tom Barrasso and Jean-Sebastien Aubin as their goaltending tandem in the late 90s.

  9. Correction, Malenstyn played 81 games for us last season and has been very good on the 4th line together with Dowd and Aube-kubel. While he only played 9 games the season prior season, I believe that was because he got injured blocking a shot and was on the sideline for a while

  10. Wait, what! Buffalo gave away #43 pick to get Malenstyn. He is absolutely dime in a dozen player. Worth 5th round pick at most. What are the Sabres doing.

  11. As a Caps fan I like how we're being aggressive to a degree so far. They saw themselves getting swept as an 8th seed and don't want that to be their peak. Still a way to go but they could surprise people next year depending on what else they do

  12. The Tampa Bay Lightning – or how to turn five draft picks (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th) into a measly 2nd & 4th in only 16 months.
    Well done, Bolts.

  13. More info on the Vegas trades, from Vegas local news sources:
    – Thompson found out about an hour before he was doing an autograph session at the Sphere. He did the session anyway.
    – Thompson requested a trade. He wants a chance at being a starter and doesn’t feel he’ll get it here in Vegas.
    – Schmid is most likely going to be a third-string goalie for the VGK.
    – Vegas is expected to look for a new backup goalie when free agency starts.

  14. Kevin Hayes is going to score a bunch of goals for the Penguins against the Flyers and not that much the rest of the year.

He will have like 12 goals next year and 6 will be against the Flyers.

  15. I realise you're covering a lot of news Shannon but Malenstyn played the entire season on the Caps in a really solid 4th line role

  16. Alexander Holtz is only 22 years old, trading him that's a thing but damn I thought they could've had more for him

  17. tbf malenstyn did play all season with the caps on the 4th line and is a solid penalty killer….but when you get a high 2nd for a 4th liner you take it

  18. JBB trying to correct his previous mistakes, but if Stamkos leaves he will face some real heat.

  19. Imagine having to trade Holtz AND Akira for a 4th liner.

At the same time, I didn’t even realize the Devils got two 2nd round picks for Marino. So now I’m just confused. Is their GM good or bad lol

  20. I don't understand why the Oilers re-signed Pickard even at that price. They know they don't have cap space so why don't they just use Campbell as a backup…

  21. And the 'Least Loyal to Their Players' award goes to.. The Vegas Golden Knights!

    No one was surprised.

  22. Thanks for calling out some Tampa fans. As a 30-year fan I can appreciate what's happening and how the cap space is being managed. I love Steven stamkos but can read the tea leaves.

  23. Unlike most Tampa fans, I liked the moves made yesterday. Those were two bad deals that were sunk costs and we needed to 1. Shed cap 2. Get prospects & picks.

Geekie has great potential to learn under our FWDs and Moser ( at least from my research) seems like a defensive minded dmen which we desperately need and again he can learn under Heddy and Mac

Time and parity always win , you either evolve or you cling to your past success and fade into the background. The Bolts have been relevant since 2014, entire teams have went through rebuilds in that time, we’d be stupid to think we don’t have to innovate at some point and with players like Kuch and Vasy I’d rather not waste their potential by letting everything get stale around them

  24. I'm a bit sad that Schmid leaves the Devils but I see him develop better in Vegas. In NJ he would probably play in the AHL most of the time and in Vegas there might be more action for him. He is still very young, so it's OK when he's not rushed into the spot light. I believe the goalie coaching in Vegas is better than in NJ too, so I like the move for him personally. We need him ready at the Olympics as I think we maybe can't rely on Leonardo Genoni anymore ;-).

  25. it sounds like thompson requested the trade, and I can't blame him. he deserves to be the starting goalie on a team, and splitting a goal with hill had to grate on him, plus his contract was up. hope he kills it in washington

  26. Picard actually is making 250 thousand more because hes paid in american money. Im happy they signed him he has been at it a while and im happy hes signed for 2 years .

  27. With all those moves happening. Another one took place. I'm no longer an NHL hockey fan. All because the stupid Arizona Coyotes turned into the stupid Utah Hockey Team. As if Washington Footbal Team wasn't bad enough in the NFL. Now lets get that BS in the NHL!
