Probably more than he would have gotten elsewhere but still nice to lock up a core locker room guy with some offensive upside

  2. PantsinmyPants1211

Love Martinook, but that is so much money.

  3. CasTimber

    oh thank god thank fuck

I was starting to worry that everyone was gonna go, and Marty feels like such a glue guy for the locker room

  4. ThePuzzledPanda

Value aside it would have been a huge bummer to see him play somewhere else. Glad for him to come back

  5. Was hoping for a little more of a team friendly deal but I’m damn glad he’s back. Had to get this one done

  6. Allmighty_ACE

Slight over pay but he brings more than on ice production to the team.

  7. QuiGonJinnNJuice

Play hardball with Guentzel so we can overpay Martinook. Wonderful.

Really like the player, don’t love another highly paid bottom 6 guy when we don’t have a second line

  8. HockeyGuy601

Probably get downvoted but that’s way too much. Personality is great and all but this team had to put him on waivers last time

  9. 88Caniac88

Wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t paying Fast money to do nothing. But the 2 of them combined for that much $ is rough

  10. A bit overpaid, but a “culture” guy. And the cap is only going up.

  11. mindseyecoil

Look, I love Marty and would be sad to see him go but we cannot hand him 3 mil a year and then miss out on scorers. I wish I felt better about this.

  12. Seems like a lot, AAV was only $1.8m on his last 3 year deal.

  13. adsheppa

Chicago offered him 3×3. Guess we “matched” it

  14. XJudgeBootyX

I mean I’ve always liked him in the bottom six. Whenever he’s top six though it’s a bad sign.

We have some young talent coming up and maybe he can bring them into the culture.

I’m indifferent to the signing itself on a hockey move but like the dude.

  15. That’s… fine. Not really one of our biggest guys on the ice, but feels like a core part of the team nonetheless. I would have been sad to see him go, so at least we don’t have to deal with that.

  16. kapy2103

uhhh all due respect but what the fuck? lol

  17. OrganizationCapable5

AFP analytics had his projection at 3×2.75; salaries are going up and it seems like an overpay, but it shouldn’t be surprising…

  18. Dinker31

If we beat the rangers people would be looking at this a lot more favorably. Hi’s save in game 6 should have headlined the Stanley cup video

  19. Winring86

    Man that’s an overpay…

Edit: I guess he does have consecutive 30+ point seasons and he plays on the PK. I would have liked something in the 2s but this isn’t horrible

  20. A lot of people in this thread talking they got years of experience in the FO of a pro sports org.

  21. socialaxolotl

Guys he’s more important than you realize. Who else is going to strike fear into the Rangers before they exit the tunnel

  22. GhostITW

$3M is fine. Martinook is a great third liner who’s good in the room and very good on the PK. Comparable contracts are Marcus Foligno, Joel Armia, Brandon Tanev, Dakota Joshua, Yakov Trenin.

I would say he’s right in line with that list. Odds are we are putting Fast on LTIR so it’s not a huge dollar difference. He’s making $1.2M more than last season which is small in the grand scheme.

  23. ExtremepcVA

Guess I’m on « I don’t mind this deal island. » Martinhook has been such a consistent producer and player in the playoffs. Always has been clutch when we needed and plays up to the talent of his linemates. Add that to he seems to be a huge locker room asset. I am happy we kept him. It really would have hurt to see him play anywhere else. The salary cap is set to keep rising. I think this will age better than most expect.

  24. fogent94

This has got to be a makeup contract for him getting boned and also only happening because the cap is rising. I’m super neutral on this

  25. SpentGladiator77

$2 million for the value on the ice, $1 million to be the hype man to keep spirits up through a down year or two. I don’t hate it.

  26. SpacemanPete

Ehhh. I was ready to see him go and I think 3m a year is too much, but happy for him. I guess. I’m experiencing a sense of underwhelment.

  27. Ken_Thomas

So much for Tulsky being all about stats.
But I like the signing. Martinook just brings too many intangibles to let him go. The team as a whole always looks flat and dead when he’s not in the lineup.

  28. LookitsJ0SH

marty is my favorite canes player so i am good with this 🙂
