Trouba is still on this team. No real 1RW. Fuck you, Rangers

  2. metalmayne

A good GM would get you a cheap well performing player for a 2 and a 5.

    Fire this idiot.

  3. idkaboutth1s

I really don’t like this. We have no 2nd rd picks for 3 years, and they are usually valuable at the deadline. Feels like an overpay for Reilly Smith. Compared to the Chychrun trade, this feels steep.

  4. vertigounconscious

WHAT ARE WE USING 5m OF SPACE ON THIS GUY FOR

  5. shig-baq

god this trade is fucking horrific. A 2nd for a $5m third liner to a fucking division rival. What the fuck Drury

  6. Dont_know_where_i_am

His first off-season as a GM Drury traded Buchnevich for Sammy Blais and a 2nd. Since then he’s spent two 1sts, two 2nds, a fourth, a fifth, and Sammy Blais to try to fill Buch’s spot on the roster.

I sure hope for that price, there is some cap retained.

  8. JPmoneyman

We could have Signed Kane for a year for his cap hit and not given up a second rounder. SMH man this makes no sense.

This deal doesn’t really look that great but I’m gonna play devils advocate and say this could potentially be a good spark for a 3rd line. His stat metrics seem pretty fine and it seemed like Reilly Smith wanted out of Pittsburgh for a while now (so maybe a new change of scenery could do wonders for him).

I do agree that a 2nd round pick is a valuable asset so it’s a bit of a shame we had to give it up. Though regardless, if you look at the UFA class next year, there are a LOT of big names (i.e. they’re most likely worth 1st rounders). So let’s see how this experiment pans out

I don’t love this. Decent player but a 2nd is a lot to send over for one year of this.

I don’t think this solves the RW1 issue.

  11. Cute-Escape2751

Pens are literally BETTER with him OFF the ice. Tells you everything you need to know. Awful trade.

  12. Separate_Pound_753

Eh I dont hate it as much everyone seems to. He had a bad year in Pitt and from what I heard didnt really want to be there. The guy was dynamite for Vegas and especially in the playoffs. 33 isnt ancient and hes had bounce back years before. We’ll see what else we do aswell, im not going crazy yet

  13. Superrandy

Awful trade. Smith makes 5m. He’s worse at 5v5 than Kakko. This doesn’t help us AT ALL.

  14. p00nslaya69

Outside of a few draft picks Drury’s tenure has been pretty dreadful

  15. coghia13

I think we can all agree it’s been a rough day for the rangers

  16. EsembeeNY

If Smith was 28 or 29 I’d say odds are, he’d have a bounce back season and I’d be less concerned. He’s at the age where the probability of him improving seems really low and a risk that shouldn’t be taken. I almost feel like pit should have been the team to give us a pick to take that contract after the season he just had.

  17. Signal_Wall_8445

People wetting their pants over this deal should realize that the next 2nd rounder the rangers had available to trade was in 2027.

    Giving up a 2027 2nd is like giving up a 2025 4th.

Let’s hear the actual details before panicking,

  18. PriorAcanthaceae5694

really not that bad, he basically takes the place of Goodrow’s cap hit and its only for a year. Stanley Cup Winner.

  19. NYCSportsFan

I am leaning toward this being a bad trade. The value for the Rangers is questionable, and it needs to be better than that when they are trying to win in the next few seasons.

But the reactions on here are crazy. People want the Rangers to sign every free agent, but also no overpayments, and also you can’t give up too much draft capital, and also the Rangers suck at drafting anyway so why does this even matter? I think some people will be angry no matter what happens.

If they don’t win the Cup in the next two years (when Panarin’s contract expires), Drury is probably gone and the rebuild begins. I know people won’t like that.

Edit: With the Penguins officially retaining salary, this is a pretty fair trade for both sides. But we all know a lot of people overvalue draft picks so I doubt this will change anyone’s views.

  20. Hungry_Stoic

Really like this deal. It’s a 2027 2nd lol Contract expires at the end of this year which gives it flexibility with extending Igor/Laff and potentially Kakko if he takes the step. Good off the rush, PP, & PK. Had a down season. Only 33. THEY ARE ALSO EATING 25% which makes the cap hit 3.75MM.

  21. I’m ok with this. He did win a cup for Vegas. I’m optimistic

  22. Teknicsrx7

Before you all flip out let me give you a list of our last 3 2nd rounders who did anything: Cuylle, Nieves, Stepan.

That’s not a top 3, that’s the entire list of 2nd round picks we got anything NHL-wise from up to Stepans draft year.

Sykora might stretch that list to 4 players.

  23. i’m actually more bullish on this than most. absolutely despise trading more and more assets to fix this problem, but you’re basically getting Smith on a 1/$3.75m and his 5v5 playdriving and production is good

at this point, the only other player available who would’ve been had for the same or better value was Roslovic

  24. Nyrfan2017

These are moves you result to when the captain hold the team hostage .. and there no cap space to actually sign player
