Now that my prediction has come true I feel a certain satisfaction after assuring you guys Marchy would not be staying with VGK. We don't know what type of incentive bonuses are included in his contract but we should assume they could easily push him to $7 million in a season if the Preds go deep into the final playoff rounds or win a Cup and he lands another Conn Smythe. As I said all along, he butted heads with Cassidy on the bench during the playoffs in 23 and they both dug their heels in. Marchessault plays his best with a chip on his shoulder so I envy Predator fans. Once he's dialed into their system he should be on fire next season.
Chris ………… The Other Guy …………. Marchessault is worth how much? $7 million? $8 million? Just like I commented here many times, Marchy is a $5 million player. On Monday, the GM's of the other 31 teams spoke, and Marchy is a $5 million player. Not $7 million. Certainly, not $8 million. Marchy shot himself in the foot. On July 1st last years, he should have marched into McCrimmon's office and asked nicely to be extended for $5 million ……… what he'll be worth in the next few years. But no. Now, he is forced to sell his home and haul his family off to another city for a measly 10% raise. And you complained all year that McCrimmon hadn't made an offer. It was always obvious! MGT never had any intention of resigning an aging forward. MGT wisely is moving out older players and replacing them with productive 27 year olds. EXACTLY what MGT should be doing. Every stupid team makes the same mistake – resigning aging players out of ???? loyalty????? MGT's loyalty is to the fans. Winning is the objective. Winning doesn't come by overpaying aging veterans. There isn't a day that goes by that I am not happy that Mr McCrimmon is running the team. Thank you, Mr McCrimmon, for wisely leading this team into the future.
The Truth is as fans we know this is probably the best long term decision, but we do not care. I would have been okay sucking for a few years to let the boys ride out together. We need to give McSavage the credit for making hard calls that he knows the fans won't like.
Gonna miss Thompson. Definitely Eichel and Hanifin now
