Because ESPN probably has some bowling or dart competition it wants to air later, so naturally the NHL had to suffer
RustyMacbeth

Because not everyone works 9-5, about time us third shifters get a good game 😂 in all seriousness that makes no sense
MouthofthePenguin
Clearly, as teh picture says, it’s on at 4:30. You’re just limited by your perspective. If you would prefer that it be on even later, you could watch from London, in the comfort of your PJs.
The_Comic_Collector
Just to screw the blues probably
khe22883
You want to be on national television? Then you play at 1:30. Suck it up, expansion team.
BraveMammoth1390
NHL scheduling can be weird but I’ve never seen a non holiday weekday with a 1:30pm start. Could be typo or the league hates Seattle.
Hutch25
Because fuck Seattle that’s why.
In seriousness it’s because as usual ESPN doesn’t give a fuck about hockey and yet they get a lot of exclusive rights anyways because the NHL sucks.
lnvalidSportsOpinion
Even for those of us on the east … I’d be annoyed as hell if CBJ dropped puck at 43. I’m not usually even home until 5.
That’s lame as hell for everyone.
LetsTCB
That’s ‘late’ afternoon in EST so I can have the PM hours full of hockey!
minos157
I mean it’s obvious they’re running an opening day watch hockey all day deal ending with watching the New team play Connor Bedard.
Still sucks, but I actually get it and it isn’t the worst idea in the world.
Jayjayjayjr
If they’re airing three games, when would they air it? Someone had to be the matinee game.
Ok-Serve-825
It is National Hero Day. No pressure.
seclusivebeauty
Yeah, I’ve definitely seen weekday afternoon games when it’s a holiday, but… wat.
lightsout5477
The Tuesday part is what is weird to me. Baseball does hyped up early opening day games but like make it a Thursday or Friday so people can play hookie with work to enjoy some early hockey.
Miltroit
Every other team they wanted for the 4:30 ET slot said no.
unbannedcoug
Because fuck Seattle that’s why haha (I live here)
MagneticGorilla
The clues are in the graphic.
RysloVerik
So the Stanley Cup champions can play during prime time in their time zone?
squashed377
Triple header says it all.
jholden23
My question is why are the majority of their games always on a Tuesday at all. Roughly 21% of their games this year land on a Tuesday, the day I can never watch the games.
Every year they play more games on Tuesdays than any other day.
RipenedFish48
They want to have a triple header, so someone will get a bad time slot. They probably figure original 6 team vs the defending champs and an original 6 team featuring Bedard vs the newbies will get the most TV viewers, so they will play them at night. Sucks for Seattle fans, but as an east coast resident who likes to watch everyone, I will savor a west coast game at a time that I can actually watch.
guywithshades85
Finally!!!! A west coast game where I don’t have to stay up past my bedtime to watch.
Responsible-Fox-9082
You know I had to go and double check .. that’s weird as fuck. Like I thought maybe it was an international game so like yeah sucks for Seattle. Nope it is in Seattle
Loki9191
I fucking hate these day games man. Blues always play like shit in them which doesn’t help
choate51
Why not a hockey opening day matinee? Works pretty well for baseball. Maybe this is a new tradition Seattle wants?
joecrook
Aren’t a lot of baseball opening days, day games?
MrStealurGirllll
Well there’s 2 other games that are on at the other times. Unless you want a 10:30 start time?
Comet_Empire
Just in case the Mariners will be in the MLB Divisional series, I guess.

It’s the punishment for finishing in the ‘neither here nor there’ part of the NHL standings, or commonly called The Flyers Zone

Rangers play at 1pm in December on a Monday 12/23
ILSmokeItAll
So they can stack an opening day triple or quadruple header.
CDL112281
I would guess the Kraken are ok with being a 130 start, with the allure of being the opening game of the season, perhaps starting/considering the unique idea of an afternoon matinee to start the season
Seahawks have two home games that week, including the Thursday nighter
Add in potential MLB playoffs, and maybe the Kraken just view it as a chance to have a unique time slot in a really busy and cool week for seattle sports.
