Oof now this one hurts. Very sad to see him walk

  2. We knew he was a loan. We basically got him for free.

  3. Ethangains07

Oh 4.75 lmao? Good luck my boy 🫡. No way we were even close to that amount

  4. tampapat54

I’ll miss him but I always felt like he was just a rental. I think our top 6 is finalized barring something unexpected

  5. Never were going to sign him at the price point. Happy he was here and what he was able to help them accomplish

  6. thehustlerbraveheart

We got him essentially for free and he helped us win a cup. Good for him and Detroit, but there is no justifying giving him that $$ for the next two years. Excited to see Samoskevich next season!

Wow, that’s a crazy contract. I kind of wonder about Yzerman lately. Tarasenko is a nice player, but I would be surprised at anything over $3 mil per at this point for him.

  8. WhileInternational41

I continue to be baffled by why anyone is surprised by this. The surprise would have been resigning him after making a clear playoff push rental trade.

  9. AnxiousYam9909

Yeah no way we could have paid that, will be odd playing against him and Lyon on the same team. Time for mackie!

  10. SteamboatBilly15

    good luck to you senko!

btw this isn’t directed at vladdy bc this is not a contract I’d want on our books, but we have guys like schmidt who are taking league minimum just to play here and yet most of our cup winning free agents were on the first flight outta FLL the day after the parade…

the cup tax is real but feels like we’re taking it on the chin way sooner and harder than most cup winners in recent memory.

I mean look OEL and Lomberg probably aren’t even making that much more AAV-wise than what Zito likely offered them when you factor in canadian taxes, why wouldn’t you want to stay in south florida to play for a winning and well-managed organization and just keep this thing going?

    just frustrating man

  11. Anerythristic

Wow he snubbed the Penguins last minute huh?

  12. MadIrishMan17

Good for him. Knew he wouldn’t be able to stay, we have enough cap space left for one league min deal. Was hoping he would sign with a younger team in need of mentorship that was outside of our division though lol.

Glad I listened to everyone who told me to wait on his jersey. I still had hope I would have reason to get it this year. I’m so sad that’s he’s gone but he did feel temporary like y’all said. 😭😭😭

  14. lovexlikewar

My first free agency season has been devastating!!

  15. Number333

Even though I knew in my heart of hearts that it was a pure rental, it still stucks. I think Tarasenko’s ***awesome*** and even during the goal drought he had for that whole stretch in the playoffs, he still contributed to being a winning player in other ways. Appreciate his goal in Game 3 by putting himself in good position after Skinner’s goof-up for us to take back the lead.

Wish him nothing but the best in Detroit!

  16. Fibergrappler

Congrats on the deal Vlady. See you down the road 🥺

God speed Tarasenko. Hope you perform awful against us. Hope your redwings don’t make the playoffs or if they do get a lower seed than us. But otherwise hope you do well.
With that said dude helped us out tremendously. Came through in the final with some great goals.
I knew it was going to be hard to keep him. Wanted to keep him more than giroux

  18. Key_Swimmer_1422

I did enjoy having Vladdy for the playoffs 🤗

  19. php_panda

Sure we’ll trade for him him for next year’s playoff run lol

  20. elvishblood_24

Hello, Detroit fan here. I don’t know much about tarasenko. Can he be a top six winger for us? Or has he fallen off. What are your thoughts on him?

  21. doyouunderstandlife

Damn, this sucks, but we really had no option other than to let him go. Thank you, Vladdy

  22. cheeezychomp

Vital for the run, no way we could pay that.

Got his 2nd cup and a payday, sounds like a W for him in my book, good luck my friend 🫡

  23. gtrmanny

Yeah that’s too much. We were never gonna be close to that

  24. jsu9575m

I could see him returning in his final NHL years when he’s cheap. But he had to take a deal like this while he still can.

  25. Novel_Durian_1805

Damn…I know all of this is business, but still…

  26. Klutzy-Cup-8341

Every one of these guys who left us absolutely played their hearts out for us. I’m happy for them to get their bag.
