  1. Just hoping the rebuild doesnt last as long as the Oilers one did.

I dont think we can count on winning all the the 1st picks the Oilers had.

But im fine we are tearing it down completely. Our years of mediocre teams obviously wasnt working.

  2. If Edmonton can somehow wind up with Jonathan Huberdeau, Connor McDavid would quadruple his goals. Watch Jonathan Huberdeau’s highlights with the Panthers. Those two guys would score some ridiculous goals together. And Huberdeau can pass.
Calgary is not using Huberdeau correctly .

  3. Boys……Conny sat and watched as the Ast GM for 9/10 years and has learned a lot. I agree with Wayner….strip it to the studs, being ok hasn't worked. The Flames have had 1 pick in the top 5 once in the history of the franchise. Not great, but not bad enough to get a number 1 pick. Conny will build a culture and an Identity, and you'll want to be there. The new barn will help as well. We really need a bonified scorer and a generational talent would be nice as well. Go Flames!

  4. Cgy will be a bottom 3 team this year. Must tank for Gavin.

It is true this is an historical failure. From Iginla to Gio to Matty…. even the defense….

Going to need to find good looking jerseys and logo and stick with it, rename the arena, might need to move arena.

  5. Why was the rebuilding process started in the first place ? Players can't seem to get out of Calgary fast enough !

  6. As a Flames fan, let me say, this rebuild was needed to be made a couple years ago when chucky and that midget left. Treliving didn't have the stomach for it, or he was in denial. Connie is doing what needed to be done.

Of course the team won't make the playoffs for at least 2 years. But we have a new building in the works so the plan is having a competitive team for that. I don't agree with the 4 to 5 year rebuild. We're getting younger, faster, bigger and Connie is building a high scoring team. Not relying on 1 or 2 players to carry the team.

My prediction: by the time the doors to the new build open, the Flames will be a playoff team. Not a cup contender, but a playoff team.

  7. Coyotes did this for years, took on bad contracts with term for picks, loaded up their farm team, and now Utah is going to benefit with these young guys now ready for NHL prime time.

  8. It makes me sad because even though I’m a die hard oilers fan, I’m also Calgarian and I want the Flames to be better. Sure Oilers have other rivals but there’s nothing quite like BOA and it’s not the same of Calgary is struggling. I also want this city to experience playoff hockey again

  9. Full rebuild is needed, even with all those good players we had that are gone in the last 2 years, we didn't do fuck all with them at all, won the division a couple times, and the west once just to get ousted early in the playoffs. It sucks but it is what it is. One top 5 draft pick (Sam Bennett) in the whole history of the franchise, and he is gone. FINALLY after 30 years of owner Murray Edwards wanting mediocrity he is letting Conroy do what is actually needed to build a winning culture, not just plug leaky holes with silicone. The owner has been the big problem the whole time. Lets see what Conroy can do so far its looking promising, and there is finally happiness in the fanbase now that there is a clear direction for once. Its tough but its a breath of fresh air. Cheers boys!

  10. Scouting, developing players and team culture seems to be the issue with Calgary. It was always the issue with Edmonton, too, for the longest time. The Oil thought it could just mine magic from the Old Oilers Boys Club by cycling through former greats as coaches and GMs. They had to step away from that broken culture in order to fully rebuild. Something stinks in Calgary and has for quite a while now. Ownership? Management? This team culture stuff seems hard to pin down but also seems to have a very tangible effect on players.

  11. It is normal for a player wanting to leave if their old group leave. Especially with the flames situation, but I honeslty think Hubeadeau is killing the team chemistry big time. Jus the feeling I get.

  12. The Flames are in good shape but we'll see if they get gifted four first overall picks like the Oilers.

  13. As a Flames fan, I couldn't be happier with Conroy at the helm. It's gonna be a tough couple seasons, but I'm glad the team has a clear direction. Burn it to the ground, play the kids and rebuild. Two decades of mediocrity has got us nowhere

  14. Draft picks are trade capitol right? So are prospects…true? The Flames always made the playoffs but to what end? Mucky middle? We were never going to challenge for the cup. This is the same thing in many ways what the Oil did, you guys should know all about this hell it was far worse for you. Three years is plenty of time to turn things around if done right and gaining all this "Trade capitol" is exactly how you position yourself for the near future. I think you are missing the point of what we are seeing going down in Calgary. We are seeing the new era of competent GMs with JJ and Conroy. Let Alberta take the lead in showing how to do things in the NHL!

  15. As a flames fan I love the direction. Oilers had 4 first overall picks plus a third to get where the y are. We were tied of being on the bubble. Bring on the young boys like Sharangovich, Zary, etc. Remember the lowest pick flames ever had is 4th. We did a partial rebuilt many times without success. Bring it on! Go Flames Go!

  16. You guys are right. However with Conroy doing things his way we will be a very good team in 3 years and in 5 years be competing for a cup. We will have draft capital and salary cap room to bring in those missing pieces to make a great team even better.

  17. As a Flames fan, I would just like to thank the Oilers for creating the blueprint of how NOT to rebuild. Our rebuild will not take 10+ years (world's longest oil change), the NHL won't have to create new draft rules because of the Flames and we won't create a losing environment by not insulating our young stars with real NHL talent from the start.

  18. 😂😂😂 calgary lames, they are only there if they continuously fluke, so why spend the money. 😂😂😂.

  19. Interesting you listed 11 players gone there are actually a few more. But coming in Huberdeau, Kadri, Kuzmenko, Sharangovich, Zary, Coronato, Pelletier, Pospisil, Lomberg, Mantha, Weegar, Brzustewicz, Miromanov, Bahl, Pachal, Hanley, Cooley and Wolf. But perhaps more importantly combining this years draft and the next 2 we will have drafted 6 1st's 5 2nd's and 5 3rd's. Then on top of that we still have 20 million dollars of cap space which means we could add 2-4 more good players. Like Draisaitl and Marner. So no they don't plan on being good next year or maybe the year after but they have all kinds of time to turn this around at 3 times the speed the oilers did it without sucking for 10 years in a row. What I'm most excited about is Trevling and Sutter being gone and not having 5 of the bottom six filled up with 35 year old 4th liners because Sutter didn't trust any player under 30. We finally get to develop our prospects that being Coronato, Pelletier, Zary, Pospisil, Wolf, Solovyov, Kuznetsov, Brzustewicz and Grushnikov. We don't need even 1/2 of those players to make the team and if one forward is a 1st line player and 1 defensemen is 1st line then with the cap space and the current roster we will be fine.
In fact my prediction is when we get to the new arena your team will be going down and ours will be rising. I could be wrong if you can sign Draisaitl to under 14 million and McDavid to under 20% of the cap hit which might mean a 19 million cap hit. We really only have 1 player who is overpaid and that's Huberdeau.
Let me just add Edmonton's window is 2 years and you've had Draisitl for what 8 years now and this was the first year you even had a sniff. I'm not convinced because Toronto has 4 top end forwards and what happened there…no money for defense or goaltending….following the Toronto model seems like a bad idea… I thought for sure you would have figured it out but instead you spend the new cap space on more forwards, now your over the cap and looking to downgrade the defense to get back under…hilarious.
One more point of interest the 10 players you mentioned (not counting Markstrom) got 167 goals this year and counting just ten of the new players I mentioned they only got 167 goals this year. So that's a net difference of 0.
One more point of difference average age of the players who are gone 29.63 average age of the 11 players I'm comparing 26.72 that's almost 3 years younger so next year how would you like to bet we are ahead of the other group.

  20. Asa Flames fan I'm just happy to see some young players make the team for a change. But this rebuild will take at least 5 years minimum.
