Boston let DeBrusk go because he sort of sucked when not dragged along by Marchand. Who is going to drag him along on the Canucks!? Pettersson? If playing in the top 6, he should be good for 20 goals/20 assists per season?
clearly Guentzel is a better player, but for the term and money he would have got in Vancouver, I’m glad they went with DeBrusk. He’s still a good player and likely the Rick Tocchet type.

Desharnais at 2mil for 2 years is great! He led the AHL in +/- a couple years ago, is an absolute monster of a man, has tremendous work ethic, and is fearless as a fighter known for sticking up for this team mates. It’s just weird hearing you guys dump on him without watching the tape on him. He even paid his dues and came up to the league late. I remember him from the Vancouver/Oiler series for good things which I suspect is part of why the Canucks went and signed him.
Also, Meyers at 3mil per for 3 years is a solid signing. He is cheap in a top four role and a reasonable cost for bottom pairing. It’s quite likely that the Canucks find another top four right D in trade. Anther thing they have now with the Meyers signing is some cost certainty on the right side, knowing they have a player who can play in the top four, if they choose to develop another top 4 RD from within.
It’s also worth noting that Zadorov, who I love, signed six years at 5 million, so he’s being paid as a top four but playing in the bottom six in Boston. He is more of a gamble should Boston move him into the top four than us having Meyers in our top four if only because we at least know what type of player Meyers is in a solid defensive structure.
i don't listen to steve dangle but I did click on their video talking about Canucks FA signings. SD was happy Vancouver took Debrusk out of their division and out of their conference because he's a menace in the playoffs. He said the best move the Leafs made was Jake Debrusk leaving the East 🤣
