Thing is, if Adams would’ve waited a bit longer he could of got Macloud for a 2nd or a 3rd. He jumped the gun and made a senseless head scratching bad trade.
Good trade for both teams. Gives Sabres a ready a solid and NHL experienced 3rd line C with a reasonable cap it; gives the Oilers needed cap space and a good prospect.
As someone who has watched every nhl game basically of McLeod, if he committed to defense and be a bit harder to play against he would be a great fit as a 3C. But his speed is far and away his best attribute, but after that it's hard to pinpoint the next best skill. He is fast, but stays on the perimiter off the rush, gets on the forecheck fast but doesnt finish hits, has an underrated shot but doesnt shoot ebough and looks to pass off but isnt good ebough playmaker to defer good shooting areas. Buffalo is getting a 3rd line player for as long as they want to keep him and there is value for a player like that but you'd think a 2nd round pick could get you something similar.
Ryan McLeod is a good young hockey player. McLeod has good hockey sense and is good in all three zones on the ice. He needs more opportunity, which he likely wasn't going to get in Edmonton. This trade helps both Buffalo and Edmonton, who are making this trade for different reasons. Sabre fans are going to love McLeod.
With the team becoming more defensively aware. Especially in the bottom 6 and a minus 130 player off the 1st and 3rd (end of last year) off the team. They hopefully will be able to win without half the team having career year in goals.
Good breakdown – just remember Sabre fans two things about him : 1. He's not physical, he's bigger (though skinny) and can certainly take a hit he shy's away from the tough areas and tends to play a perimeter game.
2. He's prone to mistake – including a massive gaffe in the Vcr series that nearly cost us. We were up 3 to 0 with 9 minutes left in game 7. We were in total control, on our way to a shutout win (4 or 5 to 0 as Vcr was going to pull goalie soon), Skinner (Oiler goalie) stops puck behind the net, Ekholm picks it up, moves it ahead to Mcleod, see's a Canuck coming at him though not under a great deal of duress, has lots of time and whiffs completely on a zone clear literally giving the puck to a Canuck who walks in unmolested and scores. Canucks get life, score again 2 minutes later to make it 3 to 2. Mcleod is stapled to the bench, his confidence shot. Luckily our D held Canucks to ZERO shots on goal after that and we win the series, but in the process, in last minute Draisaitl blocks a shot with his hand and breaks a finger, and that may have cost us a Cup. Th
That is who you are getting. He'll contribute when he's not scoring (he can go 30 games with about 3 assists) with Pk and just his speed, but he'll be disappointing at times too
Savoie? Minor injuries? He's already had surgery on his shoulder, hurt it again in last year's Prospects Challenge and ended up missing all of training camp as a result, and may have hurt it again in his first and only (to date) NHL game in which he had played all of 3:55 in the first period after which he never saw the ice again.
Want to know why Edm traded him?The play dies EVERY time McLeod gets the puck on his stick……just watch. Plus he avoids the tough parts of the ice and loses puck battles along the boards consistently.
I would be interested to hear McLeods thoughts on the trade….and what he believes he brings to the Sabres…Any interview from him from Sabres media? Link? …..like some Oiler fans stated…Great speed, can transfer the puck through neutral zone.., not a good finished….He had quite a few goals about a 15 game stretch last year, and all those goals were scored in the blue paint dirty areas….when he stopped going there, the goals dried up! His weakness, he says o the printer….But McLeod is a good PKer….gets on the forecheck real quick! I hope Savoie was worth…but we needed the cap space…Hopefully McLeod works out for you guys, and Savoie for us.
These bone heads have 13M in cap space , and sure they got to resign Bowen, and UPL but you don't deal your top prospect for a career AHL player[Tullio], and a third line 30 point at best player [McLeod]. No chance does this help Buffalo make the playoffs, and now there is nobody left to sign in the UFA pool. Very bad GM management on this trade. The Oilers had to dump McLeod's salary to begin with. I can't believe Edmonton got anything better than a 3rd round pick. I was thinking the Oilers might be the ones trading a pick just to dump McLeod's salary. In the big picture Buffalo not only does the Oilers a favor , they hand them a top prospect on top of it. Insane. Fire Adams, who also just signed Zucker for 5M as well.
Ima miss Ryan he has great potential as a middle 6 two way player. If you give him linemates who drive play he is a great support player. If you give him defensive line mates he is a solid defensive forward who can easily start a counter attack
I liked K.Adams in the beginning but these last two trades are both so big overpayments it’s ridiculous. Adams clearly has no knowledge of trade value at all.
I can’t take most of this Sabre gibberish seriously. Bias kiddies distorting their stories to fit the trade. Most Oiler fans on this thread have given, honest facts and details about McLeod’s game. You sell Savoie as a through away undersized, injury prone project at 20. I had an Oiler season ticket during Dynasty. When hockey was far more physical & a bigger man’s game. They’ve conveniently taken the fighting, changed rules & the game for more offence & smaller, skilled players. It doesn’t even compare on that level. None of these pro-McLeod/anti-Savoie, Sabre fans EVER mention anything positive about any of his game. Not wasting anymore time reading this drivel. Like you 🤡’s are scouts or former pro’s who really understand the game⁉️ 💤
Ostlund is a stud. I always thought savoie would be traded and hoped so. He was the most underwhelming in his own draft class… savoie has yet to even produce at the ahl level. And he doesnt go to the net like benson does.
Who's going to score goals? Not worried. The hard-working third and fourth line players will score dirty goals, kill penalties, and make our goalies' jobs easier. A goal prevented is a goal scored. For reference see the 1999 Buffalo Sabres!

Thanks for your time. I like the deal. 1 more move to make
Savoie could be a Mitch Marner like player, what the team is bringing in is outside journey players not a good way to build a roster.
This is good context, the Sabres do have an overwhelming amount of smallish skilled forwards,
I get the trade, but i hate the trade
Peyton Krebs can move to the press box.
Buffalo needs a new gm asap
Toronto made a bad call letting Laferty go.

Great trade for the oilers.
Good luck to Mcleod. Good teammate. Very good skater.
Savioe is a midget who is always hurt
Lindy will not play Greenway 22 minutes against oilers like Granto and Peterka 6 minutes, Buffalo will be fine

Hi guys, just wonder why U have NOT signed yet U-P Luukkonen 🇫🇮 ? Is Levin considered better goalie? He is NOT.
Your roster looks bit weak.
You need to try to get into play offs., Finally. How you gonna do it?
It seems your GM and managwment team is in sleep, like the guys in Carolina.
Mittelstadt was far better player Ryan McCloud. But he was cheap.

Your problem with Mcleod is:
1) he is soft
2) he disappeared in the playoffs
Sssshhhh! Stop talking reason and logic. Reading the back of my hockey cards allows me to have my tantrum.

Thanks Buffalo Skinner as well as our best prospect ever!!!

I hope he come back to the Oil soon
The way you explained it , I now understand what they are trying to do.
Lol enjoy him, he was scratched in the playoffs bud.
Sabres fans are lucky to have Lance covering them. Nice job😀
