Isles may be a tad better with roy as coach from the start. But top end/scoring depth remain problematic. And with two overpaid bums and 18 up front doesn't help isles. pk is a mess. Plus east teams will improve as isles wain. nj is better, caps made moves, wings aren't done yet. Louzers run it back bunch will fail one year. Hopefully it gets isles a high lottery pick when the inevitable happens. And teams always have interest in 44-not at $5mil a season. 11 g 22 p isn't worth shit without a pick and half retainment. I see isles in the 16-to 20 range in the rankings. At least for isles west teams like hawks, sj, and quacks are loading up with the high picks. habs, bj's, and sens will emerge one year with the plethora of high picks they are getting every draft. Pens are getting worse, canes wont be as good. Flyers could move up. Isles better hope tb slips if they want to middle into playoffs again.
Devils are favored to win the Metro. Bleacher Report has them finishing 5th. There aren't 4 teams in the Metro better than them. Might be time to use different power rankings.
Islanders were a lot better than some think. Most games Islanders had the lead, the team went into a prevent defense instead of continuing to play the way they did to get the lead. Weak clear attempts, which led the Islanders to end up out of position and scrambling, and the other team would score to tie the game or get the lead. Something i believe Roy would correct. The other issue, with the changing of coaching, helps the PP to get better. Losing Varly for a stretch without an NHL ready back up didnt help. Lambert's job was on the line, and with the way they played the third period led to a lot of tic tac toe goals that messed up Sorokin mentally. They lost at least 10 to 15 points in games they had leads in last year. And you can sit here and say all the other teams got better, but you won't know until the season plays out. A lot could happen by the end of the season, and those teams that look like they got better, injuries, and no chemistry could end up a mediocre team. The one thing Islanders always get bashed down, but they are always in the mix. Past 2 seasons a lot of those games against Carolina could have gone either way, except Mayfield stop playing when the high stick wasnt called and him chasing the puck around and not where he was suppose to be that led to Aho tying game 6.

Pageau was never used properly. Lou gave up a conditional first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in 2020 and a conditional third-round pick in 2022 draft. Then he gave him $5 mil a year to center the 3rd line while never getting him capable wingers. I wonder if Pags wonders what his career would have been if he had moved on to a team that would have used him as their #2 center with capable wingers.

The Islanders are currently ranked in the middle or at the bottom. They can get better, AND THEY KNOW IT. If The Islanders sign or trade Oliver Wahlstrom, they might some 💵 in The Cap Space. Lou Lamoriello's been GM for I believe 25 years, he can hopefully pull a 🐰 out of his 🧢 so he can make a 23 man roster b4 the season starts. Teams that may be interested in JG Pageout. 1. Anaheim. 2. Unfortunately we’re going to have to ride with what we got, if we’re in a playoff position then we can be buyers and improve but if we’re out of it then Lou can’t stand pat, we have to trade 29, 21 and 44, realistically it will be easier next offseason to get lee’s contract off the boards, our retool will have to wait until next offseason which we can likely have another solid draft and a lot of cap space to sign guys like ehlers, boeser. Chychrun maybe make the splash for marner, Nelson maybe on a cheap team friendly deal, even with Dobson and Romanovs new contracts we’re going to have the most space we’ve had in awhile.
This team is another year older, and still lacks heart. Any team can look good on paper but, this team isn’t one of them.

If the team does not improve defensively it doesn’t matter how many goals are scored! Last on the PK in the league is not excusable! Sorokin had better return to form and the team has to commit to playing better defensively! All sounds about right Gil! But I feel it really will be a lot harder for the Islanders to sneak into the playoffs in 24-25

Sadly, I do believe the Islanders are better today versus the team last season, but I'm sure they don't rank in a class with the teams that had their way with the Islanders last season.
